I am obviously one of many families feeling ripped off by habitat. Our house was not only left unfinished, we also paid for things we never received. Our home started falling apart after half a year if being here. Our gouse was to small to begin with and now with a growing family we need out, but habitat tells us our only option is to "give" them our home. We have put alot of money into our home but due to the ridiculous penalty if we sell our home before 25 years we will walk away emty handed possibly in debt. We bought this home in our early 20s and specifically asked habitat what happens if we need to move....there response was oh simply sell it and pay us the remaining balance. We were under assumption that after 5 years we could leave if needed l.

We are also stuck as to buy a new home because after 7 years of paying our mortgage on time every month. we have nothing to show for it. No credit whatsoever, we thought this would help us in the long run...help us nuild our future but it has done neither. All loan officers tell us if our mortgage was on our credit report our credit would be perfect.

We bought the home with a 3 year old and new born...in one month we are adding a 14 year old girl ( my husbands daughter )| and we would love to have another child, we do not have the space for the family we have. Yet we cannot leave.

We also deal with being told how we should live, how we should raise our children, how iur home snd yard should look, we are critisized on every aspect of our decisions. The repairs and unfinished projects are unbelievable. Also as other habitat owners we are paying a ridiculous price for our home and also paying back grants habitat was given. we are lost and trapped. It is sad how many people this is happening to.

I would start off by calling the international habitat number. I'm in illinois and i know there are guidelines that fall into place when your trying to sell your home. In your mortgage documents all that should be stated. I know here in illinois there is a grant that is for $10,000 that is forgivin when your in the home for 5 years. As far as selling, habitat has first right of refusal. If they do not want to buy your house back, then you are able to sell it on your own, but the shorter time you are in your home the less equity habitat will give you and the more you will owe them. I believe it said every 4 years you earn so much percent in equity roughly around 15,000. I would scroll threw your loan papers and see what it says.
