I see, that I am not alone. Many people have already filed a complaint about Half Price Books' rude employees. It goes a lot farther than that in my case. I have been shopping at Half Price books for many years. This does not faze them at all though.

Everytime I have tried to return an item they get very irate about it. I recently bought a record there and since the cover was in such poor condition I decided to return it (5 minutes later) I might add. They accused me of damaging it. So they asked me to leave the store, I refused they called the police and they banned me from shopping there again. Well, they are probably doing me a favor.

I have been constantly harrased by them everytime I have been in one of there stores. There employees are alway looking over my shoulder and staring at me. It's just plain rude.

I guess there answer is to get rid of anyone that wants to return an item. They do not have ano return policy. If they did then I could see their point but the don't have a ligitimate reason to ban me from the store. By the way, the police were very sarcastic, they told me to have a Merry Christmas? They are just a bunch of snobs from the suburbs. I guess they think they are better than everyone else, eh?

They were just looking for an excuse to get rid of me. I don't mind. I know I didn't do any thing wrong and I certainly didn't do anything illegal.

I hope Half Price Books goes out of buisness. They would be doing all of us a big favor if and when they do! They RIP OFF all the buyers and sellers that shop there. Maybe they ought to change their name to Half Price Crooks!

They are already history to me, I won't miss them either.

BUYER BEWARE IN THERE

I AM INTRIGUED. APPARENTLY HALF PRICE BOOKS BOUGHT AN LP-RECORD ALBUM FROM SOMEONE WITH A COVER THAT WAS IN VERY BAD CONDITION!

AND YET, THEY WOULD BUY NOTHING OF ARCHIVAL QUALITY IN NEAR-MINT CONDITION FROM ME.

I HAVE TO ASK THE ORIGINAL POSTER WHY HE DID NOT CHECK OUT THE CONDITION FOR THE ALBUM COVER BEFORE YOU BOUGHT IT. ALSO INSPECT THE VINYL DISK INSIDE FOR SCRATCHES, HOLES, WARPING, ETC.????

I KNOW THE STAFFERS THERE ARE SNOTTY AND RUDE AND HIGH AND MAD ALL THE TIME AND GENERALLY LOUSY HUMAN BEINGS BUT I THINK THERE IS MORE HERE THAN YOU ARE TELLING.

DID YOU HAVE A RECEIPT FOR THAT MERCHANDISE THAT YOU BOUGHT. HERE, THEY REFUSE TO RETURN IT UNLESS YOU HAVE THE RECEIPT.

THERE USED TO BE AN OLD SCAM AND THAT WAS SLIPPING SOMETHING UNDER YOUR JACKET AND THEN GOING TO CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK WHEN YOU THOUGHT NO ONE WAS  LOOKING AND CLAIMING IT W3AWS GIVEN TO YOU AND TRYING TO GET A REFUND, PREFERABLY A CASH REFUND.

THAT IS AS OLD AS THE HILLS AND WITH ALL OF THE HIDDEN SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS THEY HAVE IN STORES TODAY -----FORGET ABOUT IT!

You're dodging the issues

No, you haven't really explained yourself. Robert posed a couple of good issues and, instead of addressing them, you've merely reiterated the substance of your report.

You're insulting our intelligence. You want us to believe that your very one-sided account is enough of the story. It clearly is not.

There are two issues that I see. First: why are you returning things so often at a bookstore (and especially in this instance); and second: why were the police called?

If you want us to take your report seriously, you'll have to fill in the gaps, explain your odd pattern of returning items, and give us a guess as to why they felt it was necessary to call the police on you.

All in all, it sounds like you were a bad customer. A certain share of any company's customer base is always going to be more trouble than they're worth. It sounds like you likely fit into this category.

Final response...

Sorry to bust your bubble but this complaint is about them not me! I told you the whole story.

This is my final response. I told you they get extreemly irate when I tried to return an item I purchaced there. I rarely have returned anything there. I was not satisfied with the item and I bought another item with the refund anyhow, so what's the problem? They say an item may be returned for a refund within 7 days. That is a LIE! They should adhere to their own policies.

I think they are just of bunch cry BABIES when you want to return something. You can draw your own conclusions.

They also have a bad habit of staring at people too. I find them rude and extreemly obnoxious. This kind of behavior is reprehensible and childish. This is my last reply about their lousy service.

This website was designed for people like me to air out there consumer complaints and expose crooked businesses.

- It sure is.  It also allows people to respond to the posts you write.  If you leave things out of your report, you can be sure that it will be questioned.  Not to say that there was not a RipOff, but if you leave out things it can put doubts on the entire report.

In your case you went in to the store and tried to return an item.  The next thing that happens is that they called the police and you are banned from the store.  That is a HUGE leap with what appears to be a big hole in the story.

You also never answered the question as to why you didn't notice the damage to the cover before you bought it.

I didn't leave anything out. I thought I explained this already. They almost pooped thier pants when I wanted to returned an item. They say, you have 7 days for a refund. They obviously don't adhere to there own policies. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen!

WHY DO YOU THINK THEY CALL THIS WEBSITE RIP-OFF REPORT?

This website was designed for people like me to air out there consumer complaints and expose crooked buisnesses.

Like I said, they got very irate when ever I returned an item. They also lied about it, claiming I damaged the item. I have spent $100's of dollars there. If they don't want my money or my buisness that's fine. I would be happy to go somewhere else.

It's funny how many people have already filed a complaint about their poor customer service. I am not alone!

I recently bought a record there and since the cover was in such poor condition I decided to return it (5 minutes later) I might add.

- And you didn't notice the shape of the cover BEFORE you bought it?

They were just looking for an excuse to get rid of me.

- What is the rest of the story?  After all if they were just looking for an excuse to get rid of you, there must be some interesting history that you have left out.

They RIP OFF all the buyers and sellers that shop there.

- Yet you shopped there for many years.
