Our mother went to the Hanover Terrace because the hospital claimed it was the only nursing home with an available bed. Our nightmare began.

The social worker stated that we had to sign papers if we had durable power of attorney which we did. He was very ansy and wanted things tied up within an hour. We signed papers thinking we were signing power of attorney. Instead we signed our lives away.

Our mother was in the home for 7 months 1 week. In that time, medicare paid for 4 months. The other 3 months cost us over $50,000. They would not give us detailed invoices, refused our phone calls, and were very rude.

When we felt our mother was feeling better we opted to take her home with us. They called the state social services! Within a day of her death they filed a claim with the local court demanding we pay $50,000. We sold our parents home, under duress through a "developer" who "knew" the situation. Now after the court date we find out the following:

The nursing home relinquished all claims they had on the house prior to the court hearing at the developers request. Though we were told the selling price was $150,000 the house in all actually was sold for $200,000. We received just shy of $50,000. $70,000 was supposed to go towards paying off the mortgage, $50,000 to the nursing home to pay debt. This is how the nursing home lawyers had arranged it. The nursing home claims they never received their funds and there is now $20,000 missing. I now am court ordered to pay these morons more money. I've already lost my home, now they want blood. I have heard of others they have done this too. Now is the time to speak up!
