The sunroof in my 2001 Xterra has been leaking, so I took some of my birthday money and attempted to get it fixed. My first mistake was calling Harrelson Nissan. The part I ordered was at least $25 more than a comparable part on the internet. Oh, well. Too late. I already ordered it. My bad.

When the part arrived, I went to the dealership to pick it up. They said they could install the part in about 30 minutes. In 30 minutes, I received a call that my truck was done. Bravo.

That was where the honeymoon abruptly ended. I was presented with a bill for a full hour of labor at $90 an hour. They charged me $8 for a couple of screws. The bill, parts and labor came up to about $200 for replacing a weatherstripping seal. A fair price would have been about half that.

Then, I actually DROVE the truck. The wind whistling through the sunroof drowned out the radio. The gap between the sunroof outer seal and the truck roof is quite visible.

When I called the service manager, he argued with me saying that they were not asked to treat any noise problems. They were simply asked to replace the weather stripping on the sunroof. Then, he proceeds to tell me that they will be happy to look at it, and that it may require more parts. Automatically, I saw where this was headed.

Still, I took the truck to the dealership to give the mechanic the opportunity to take a torque wrench and give it a couple of twists. For that, I was told that I'd have to wait an hour or more. When I called back later, the guy in the service department became very defensive and talked over me on the phone rather than give me the customer service I deserve.

Hello...if I bring you my truck and I ask for the sunroof to be fixed...I WANT IT FIXED, especially if you're going to charge me an outrageous price to do so.

So my sunroof is still noisy. I am not sure if the leak has gone away. I'm out $200. Thanks, Harrelson Nissan.
