Hartford Auto Club made unauthorized withdrawels from checking account

of $99.00 had been deducted by ACH. I did not recognize the party deducting the amount that was listed as HAC and had a phone number of 1-866-888-9157 so we decided to call and find out what was going on. When my husband called there was a message that told us to call another number and so he wrote it down and told be the name of the company: Hartford Auto Club. The name rang a bell with me because we received some details in the mail two weeks ago and I just threw it in the garbage because neither of us recognized the name.

So, he called the number and talked a representative named Jennifer. He told her we had no clue who they were and that we never authorized the transaction. She told my husband that she did not have a record of the deduction and that we would have to send a faxed copy of our bank statement with the withdrawal listed on it. She also told him that there would be an investigation that would take 15 days. She also stated that if we canceled they would still keep the $99.00 because it was non- refundable. I had a feeling that something fishy was going on so I called myself as soon he hung up and spoke to ?Andrea?. She told me the same thing that the other representative told my husband so I demanded to speak to a supervisor. I then spoke to ?Tenicia? who told me the same thing and I explained to her that we never authorized the deduction and that we wanted the money back.

She told me that could not be done and that if the ?investigation? ( by screening the original phone call, which I doubt they have) showed my husband never made the authorization then, we would get it back. In response, I asked her if we were going to hear the recording and she told me yes. I had a feeling so she was lying so I told her that I used to work for a credit card company and I was pretty sure they got our account number from another source and that what they were doing was wrong. I also stated that I was pretty sure other people had complained about this as well. She had absolutely nothing to say which confirmed my thoughts. I then hung up as told her I was going to issue a dispute with my bank.

Due to the information listed on this website, my husband and I have closed our account because we cannot afford to have this happen to us. I'm really upset and don't understand how people who work for these kind of companies sleep at night....
