hartford insurance AARP auto home insurance program hartford did not renew my auto policy. They are back billing me for 1129.24, for insurance I never had. Southington, Connecticut

hartford insurance failed to renew my auto insurance. when I tried to get proof of insurance, hartford e mailed me a letter as proof of insurence. county clerk did not accept letter. I canceled hartford by phone. got new gmac policy same day. got my tags. am now with gmac.  hartford is billing me 1129.24 back dated on new policy. they say I was covered the whole time, although I had no new policy, or proof of ins. no money was sent to hartford the whole time. hartford has turned this bill over to their collection dept. if this collection is legal, it looks to me like legalized extortion. hartford told me this is a rare mistake on their behalf, but ... sorry charlie.
