I read Harvey's book How To License Your Million Dollar Idea within the last year, and I liked it a lot. It seems very direct, and useful. So I called Harvey today (8/19/09) to ask him some of the same hard questions that he advocates should be used to screen out fraudulent product promotion services (on page 46 of his book).
I asked him how many products he has successfully licensed for clients. How many he has accepted to attempt to license. And how many products he has reviewed (his current fee for product evaluation is $189).
He refused to answer ANY of these questions. He did say that products succeed "very infrequently" and that there had been "less than a handful." He also said that while disappointed when their products are not selected for licensing attempts by his company, virtually all of his customers are satisfied with their product evaluation.
I personally know a woman who sent her product concept in and thought that Harvey's review was very general, and essentially worthless.
It certainly sounds to me that Harvey is misleading people by holding out the carrot of licensing representation, while making his money off of cursory "product evaluations."
Caveat emptor!
