but this is how I interpret the apparent scam you have briefly described:
They send you a bunch of checks adding up to, say, $3000.
You deposit the checks and then send (wire?) them $2700 (you keep 10%).
Two weeks later, your bank calls and tells you that you owe the bank $3000 because all of those checks were bogus. Funny thing, you would not be able to contact the people who sent the checks.
Is this the right interpretation?
Bonus question: How does the US Census describe the average income etc. of your ZIP code? Maybe this is a benefit of your government at work?
