This is a total scam. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! I learned this the hard way. I had to cancel my credit card and put a fraud alert on my SS# after talking to these scam artists. The cost of my insurance at work increased considerably and I was looking for a good policy for my family. BOY did I look in the wrong place! I clicked on a bad link on the internet and came across a scam site. My first big mistake. (Please use the REAL government site: healthcare.gov)

The "licensed agent" named Don quoted me $289/mo for a family of 4. It was too good to be true, but I figured if it was on the market place.... it must be good. Right? This super amazing policy had all the bells and whistles. No deductibles. Hospital, ER, Rx, etc.  I said more than once “this sounds too good to be true!” Don replies by saying “oh it’s true! This is an amazing deal…” then started spouting off a bunch of insurance terms that made him sound knowledgeable.

After taking all of my personal info, including my SS# for verification purposes, he asked me for my credit card info. I asked if he could email or snail mail me a quote so I could compare with other companies. He then told me that if we were to stop the application process, we would have to start all over any my price would probably go up. Well I’d hate to lose such an amazing price. So I have him my credit card number.

BAM!

Line goes dead. He hung up on me. So I call the number that he gave me to contact him directly. It’s a number that isn’t in service. So I panic. I called the number that was on my caller ID. I ended up talking to some operator named Myra asking what kind of business gives bad phone numbers and hangs up on people after receiving their personal information.

She told me I was wasting her time and asked who I was talking to. I said Don. She said that there are over 500 people working there and I would have to be more specific, so to stop wasting her time and mine. (This is the best person they could find to answer the phones??) I asked what the name of the company was. She would only say “Health Benefits.” I asked if it was the full name of the company and she asked why it mattered. I asked where the company is based from. She said Florida. I asked where in Florida, because it’s a big state. She REFUSED to answer. After threatening to call the BBB and FTC, she finally managed to connect me with Don.

He told me I must have written the number down wrong then connected me with a woman who was asking me questions. Her spanish accent was so thick I couldn’t understand her. They were all yes or no questions. I couldn’t understand her so I said no. She’d ask again. I said I can’t understand you, so the answer is no. I ask where she are located. She refused to answer. Finally she said “Panama” then hung up on me.

I cancelled my credit card right that second. I called back. Myra must have remembered me and sent me right to a “Supervisor” named Frank. This guy was trying to “address my issues” with the service I received. He was asking me questions about my health and the health of my family. I asked why he wasn’t looking at my file and he said “Oh I thought we were just talking. Just having a conversation.” SERIOUSLY!?!?! I told him to cancel the “account” and that I was contacting the BBB and FTC to file a report.

I put a fraud alert on my SS# just in case. I contacted FTC and filed a report, then BBB. The BBB has never even HEARD of this company. That is a HUGE red flag.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful when searching for health insurance. Because there are scum out there looking to take advantage of you. This company is no different.

Although the Health Benefits Center has been in business since 2011. They have been inundated with consumer complaints. Consumer complaints both in the form of online review sites similar to this one, google reviews, and unflattering yelp reviews.and even multiple disciplinary actions from state agencies.

As a result of the sullied and tarnished online reputation of the Health Benefits Center. They have changed the corporate name. They are now doing business as Simple Health Solutions or S.I.S.

Don’t fall for the name change scam. It’s still the same overpriced mini-meds or limited indemnity insurance products being dressed up to appear better than real health insurance.

For the Agents, don’t destroy your morals and principles. Get out while you still can. Before Victor De Azza and Frank Gusmano decide to randomly terminate your contract and withhold your last paycheck for two months.

For Clients. Just stay away. And if you fell for their charm call and cancel immediately. get every nickel refunded including the “enrollment” fee.
