Health Care Services Group, Inc. I was a new manager that they let go off of one mistake and a bunch of hearsay Internet

Healthcare Services Group Inc. is a third party company that consults with long term care facilities and enters agreements with them to take over supervision of the housekeeping and laundry duties, as well as dietary in many cases.  They have a motto of "reducing client costs and improving overall quality".  They have been around since 1977 and do business in most of the states within the United States.  While they do have a pretty good blueprint on cleaning a facility, I just do not like the way the company did business with me and the way they treated me.

To start with, the company does not necessarily train their "managers-in-training".  They say they like to promote from within, and I'm sure they do.  But they also bring in a lot of people fresh off the street from outside the company as well, which is what they did with me.

I was trained for 2 weeks, but it really wasn't training all that relevant to my future managerial position.  It had some relevance as I did need to learn housekeeping.  But I was not trained on the managerial responsibilities I would need to know.  I don't blame the person at that building entirely as we thought I would be there 4 months training.

To make a long story short, I was dumped into a building after those 2 weeks to replace an outgoing manager.  That's the way the company does things... whether you're ready or adequately trained or not, they throw you in the fire.  You can ask questions of your district manager, but I always got the feeling he was so busy and overworked that I tried to avoid that as much as I could.

I did well as the administrator, district manager, and regional manager all had high praise for me.  I then made one mistake.  It was a bad mistake and an embarrassing one, but it was a honest accident that would never have happened again.  The company did an investigation and I was assured that it was nothing to worry about.  3 days later they say they have all these confidential allegations against me that I can't know about or answer or confirm or deny, and they're laying me off, pretty much permanently.  They got all the "facts" on one side of the incident and didn't bother to look at or consider my side.  I was there for one month, brand spankin' new, was never given a handbook, I found one, never trained, made one mistake and was kicked to the curb based off of hearsay. I'm told the allegations are exaggerated and if I ever find out why I was really let go I'll be mad.

I'm also told the company went behind the facility administrator's back and over his head to get their way, but that's not confirmed.  What I don't like is the way this company does business.  They don't care about their people, whether you're a new manager, an old manager, or a lowly housekeeper.  They're not very organized at all.  They came into this particular building without enough handbooks for the staff that was there and never got them handbooks. They have big problems in their payroll department with paying people accurately and timely.  I don't think they have much honesty or integrity.  They'll tell you one thing and change it up.  I'm told in a worst case scenario I'll be moved to another building, and then I'm let go.  I'm told if I need more training I'll go back to my original building, and I'm let go.  I'm told they have more buildings than they have managers to fill them, but they literally don't have any open buildings to put me in.  My district manager acts like he's thrown and upset by all of this, and he may have been.  But he said he has to find someone to run the building when he had already appointed someone to run it on at least an interim basis.  Maybe I'm misunderstanding some of this, but if I am a lot of people are because you can find a lot of complaints of empty/broken promises from the company and some people even saying they flat out lie to employees and even clients.  I don't know that they lie to clients, I don't know that they lied to this client.  I do know realistically they're not in the business to help their clients.  They're not a nonprofit organization.  They are in the business to make money.  So, if it comes down to doing things the way the client wants it done in terms of staffing on the floor or doing it the way they want to do it to save money, they're going to do the latter.  They're going to do the latter regardless of whether it's realistic to expect 4 housekeepers to be able to keep a facility that size clean or not.  The saving grace for them might be that the interim manager they have is an experienced housekeeper and apparently will be helping out.  But if they truly decided to do something without the administrator's knowledge, that to me goes against everything I personally was told to do.  I just don't think they are to be trusted... by anyone.

Hello all first off let me say that I've been with this company for 2and a half years and before they tookover my facility I was there 6mon. Now what shocks me is that a large company of this stature does NOT have a BBB rating why? Because there not registered with them! That right there should give you an idea of the lack of integrity of both these companies. Now back to the point I totally agree with this person in this post because I knew Someone who was in the same building as me and they did him the same way. As for me I was discriminated against and robbed of my lively hood. This company truly believes in and openly practices discrimation and treat people like they truly nothing. I was a full time employee before and for a period of time after they took over. But some 6-7months go by and out of nowhere with no explanation they took my 40 then reduced to 30hrs a week and without notice further reduced it down the like to just 15hrs a week! No granted the first time they did me like this we were just getting used to our SECOND supervisor that was only there a month witch was a nice because later on he fought for me and got back some of my hours which put me at 25hrs per week witch is nothing at 8hr with 700 in rent every month plus bills. BUT do the fact the administrator who if you close ur eyes thought he wore panties...he had a lot of female tendacies and very racist. Then after 3 months my supervisor #2 was replaced for whatever reason and they brought in a puppet for the third supervisor who would do anything that was told to him by the administrator including single out employees who he did not "trust" who just happened to be anyone non Hispanic (mexican) .

Now I know ur probably thinking here's the race card right? WRONG the racism is blatenly right in ur face I got screwed on my hours again by this new supervisor and on top getting knocked down to two days of work my job was give to a Mexican who Varley speaks English they did the same thing two a Filipino gentleman who had been here d**n near 10urs who had to take of his wife and he came back they told him they no longer need him there full time and 2days a week was what was given. From the district manager all the way down to the common housekeeper is Hispanic! Oncliding the administrator we have one black dept head and maybe 10 employees that I know of that are not Hispanic. There shady on there polices and change them when ever the feel like without notices such as sick pay if you call of one day you need a doctors note! Or you don't vet paid! It did  not used to be that way.they also pay you ur vacation without notice and if you decide to take a vacation afterwards they will NOT pay you for it! Most of the time ur lucky if they get ur regular hours right let alone the extras for the past two years I've worked before during and after thanksgiven and chrismass holidays and have not been paid for it and have not been paid for sick days as well. Long sorry short they need Simone to raise BIG class action because there shaydy

#6UPDATE EX-employee responds

Mon, September 10, 2012

I was reading this report, and I am very glad I did.  It made me feel so much better about my encounter with Health Care Services Group.

Around June 2012 I get a phone call from this gentleman who found my resume on Monster and wanted to set up an interview for a Dietary Manager's position that he had available locally.  I just finished my Certified Dietary Manager's course the month before and I did advise him that I have not taken my test yet.  His response was that is what his company is looking for and it would be fine.  I was set up for an interview the next day.

I went to the interview and the Manager "Paul" that I interviewed with seemed extremely interested in me.  But the interview process seemed rushed.  I did the interview with him and before I knew it, I was filling out new employee paperwork and tax information.  I asked him does this mean I got the job to which he responded "It means you have a great chance at getting the job!".  I was set up for a second job interview.  But the whole time I had a lingering feeling inside that something was shady.

Second interview with a "Scott" a few days later.  We sat and talked for about 15 minutes and he told me that he wanted to offer me a position.  I was so thrilled I was crying.  But still.. it just seemed like the whole process was moving like a dream.   I filled out the remainder of the paperwork and he told me to call him Monday and we would talk about salary.

Monday I talked to him and he said the company agreed to my salary.  He told me to call him Friday to see if the background check came back.  I called Friday and he did not answer his phone at all.  Finally on Monday when I could not get him, I called the original guy that called me and they said they were still waiting on my background check.

Meanwhile, I found out from a buddy of mine that he was also hired with HCSG and he got the same job that I did and was suppose to start in the same place.  Curious and upset about this, I called Paul back to which he gave me a run around and said there were plenty of positions to fill.

So I  wait for my background check for almost 3 weeks total and when I can start and the next thing I know I get an email from the training manager (who I never met) saying that I was not going to be working for this company.

I could not believe it!! What kind of company hires you, get you and your family all excited and then sends you an email saying you don't have a job?

When I read your report about how they hire people off the streets that have no training at all, I can verify that 100%.  I was told that they like it that way because they can train you to be how they want.  I had no experience when they so called hired me and I was going to be a Certified Dietary Manager.  I don't believe they ever called my references or anything.

Thanks for your report.  I've been kickin myself wondering what I did wrong, but the bad feeling I had was right the whole time!

#6UPDATE Employee

Tue, May 01, 2012

i am an employee with the same company and i agree with what was said. i've been with healthcare services group for a little over 2 years and have had 4 managers and 4 district managers none of which were trained properly to do their job. part of the time we don't have what we need to do our jobs, we done without toilet bowl cleaner for almost 2 months and disinfectant to clean with for 2 weeks and then are told by our district manager that the building is disgusting. i love my job but i don't love the company . our manager was sent to another building to work we were told he would be back this week and our district manager told me and a coworker yesterday that he wasn't coming back but they hadn't told him.thats wrong. the district and regional managers only care about the bonuses they get for saving money they have no regards for the regular employees. i was told to get on my hands and knees and scrub bathroom floors that's not going to happen, i'm 51 years old and i do my job but i won't be treated that way.
