I signed up (family) over the phone for only one month, as I was starting a new job with insurance after that. From the very beginning I made clear that I wanted insurance for just one month. They explained that the "insurance" I was signing up for was not actually "medical insurance" as defined by the affordable care act, but it allegedly covered a number of medical expenses, and they assured me that such (whatever?) insurance was legal, common and easy to enroll in. They were quite helpful explaining how to sign everything up, including walking through forms and checkboxes (I felt a little pressure, but not enough to back out). My credit card was billed and we were "covered" (never actually tried to use the insurance, so have no idea how that might go?).

A few months after I assumed the temporary insurance story was behind me, I noticed my credit card had been charged for two months after the first month period ended. I called to remedy things but was told that I had signed something indicating autopay was OK and that I needed to explicitly cancel in order to stop being billed. I explained the original story (i.e. how I signed up for one month), and that I had other (real) insurance and had never filed any claims. The final sham was that one must cancel within seven days of credit card billing in order to possibly get a refund. Needless to say I was too late and my $2200 was gone.

Basically READ THE FINE PRINT AND PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BANK / CREDIT CARD DEBTS, else these guys may siphon off your cash too.
