Omg, I almost "signed up" to work for this company today!!! I went to the their informational meeting on Tuesday (this is Friday) and was duped at the time. And very excited!!! What a great opportunity!!! They even give you stock and you are an "owner" as well. However, I began to feel uneasy upon reading some of the glossy publications they sent home with me. Thankfully I currently work in the insurance business so my understanding of of all the fine print was easier to detect. Some of the things that tipped me off in these health plans were not paying for routine office visits, not paying for many necessary prescriptions such as birth control, anti-smoking meds, syringes, etc. for diabetes and other diseases requiring such equipment, allergy serum, sleeping aids, the list goes on and on. The childbirth rider is ridiculous!!! And pointless, they pay practically nothing!!! And the biggie, the association fee, the client has to pay $500 to be a "member". WTF???

Another thing that really made me uneasy was I had to pay $175 to be appointed as a captive agent!!! I don't think so. At first I felt this was a great business opportunity, but now I realize that danger abounds!!! Being a 1099 means no benefits, no 401k, no unemployment insurance and all of the liability for any client issues is at my risk, not the company's. And what if they Health Markets doesn't pay you??? What are you going to do then??? Hire an attorney???

The other thing that really shot my radar up was towards the conclusion of the meeting the "guy" not sure what his title is, said think about it overnight. If this is for you, you will know it. And I want everyone to call me tomorrow afternoon no matter what your decision is. He went on to say "if you tell me you are not sure or are still looking for other jobs" then this isn't for you and you need to just move on. Okay, so you can't think about it??? I've been in sales for 10+ years (five in insurance). He was using the old sales technique of "a sense of urgency" to induce (like his clients) that "this offer won't be around for long!!!". Um, you need to think about a job where you have to GIVE THEM MONEY TO SIGN UP!!! In fact, if you have to PAY FOR ANY JOB then run away as fast as you can!!!

My appt. was at 11:30 this morning in Indiana (I live in SW Michigan). I started waking up around 6:30 KNOWING WITHOUT A DOUBT THIS WAS WRONG AND I WAS GOING TO GET SCREWED BAD!!!

DON'T WORK FOR THIS COMPANY AND DON'T BUY FROM IT. THESE POLICIES ARE JUNK!!! I just thank God I figured it out!!!

Any questions or comments are welcome. And yes I know I will hear from some of the "employees" of Health Markets. That's fine; undoubtedly you are making money w/this company. Easy enough selling to desperate people without health insurance, but don't try to justify the company, it's garbage. You are talking to someone who has an extensive background in the insurance industry. I don't care what these agents post here, buyer beware!!!

I kinda sensed a scam as well. Health markets actually got me interested in the insurance business. I went through with the "training" and whatnot until a certain point when I was able to read the policies more closely. I got away and I got away fast. From there I moved on and started working as a broker and life couldnt be sweeter. Not many businesses in the world where you can make this kind of money without going to school for over a decade. I mean, of course employees of HealthMarkets are going to make some decent money. Its all business 101. Theres a demand for something and theres people willing to pay top dollar for it. Are the plans garbage? In my personal opinion yes, I wouldnt sell one if my life depended on it. But at the same time name me one insurance company that isnt crooked at an extent? Im not defending Healthmarkets/MEGA/etc to ANY degree. Id personally like to see them out of business, but thats all it really is: business. Welcome to reality XD
But I hope your search does yield fruitful employement. If you are still looking let me know. Best of luck
