My family is interested in adopting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and so I went to petfinder.com to try and find one close to us. Heart Humane Society had one listed, but they wanted $650 for it.

I went to their website and discovered that they want $650 for the Cavalier Spaniel, $300 for a poodle, $500 for a Victorian Bulldog, $800 for a French Bulldog and the list goes on and on. They say the dogs are purebred and have all shots, have been fixed and vet checked.

My point is that this is an adoption center, not a pet store. No adoption center should charge huge amounts of money just because a dog happens to be purebred. They are trying to rip people off.

There are sooo many dogs and cats who need good homes

the website links you to dogs for sale (which I detest) - Call your local SPCA shelter or rescue organization for more information - Hate to say it but many pure bred dogs due end up at local shelters or rescue groups
I have 4 dogs - My Boxer was found emancipated but has since become a great dog and a mom for the first and last time -
If you have a Petsmart in your area they will post pictures and information about dogs who need homes or information regarding pet rescue organizations

What A Rip Off

They ought to be like "Second chance" or Too Good to Be Threw" those second hand, used clothing stores. They're "selling" used dogs for crying out loud, they ought to be at least half price, maybe more. Just because those pet stores can get some moron to pay those outrageous prices for those so called "purebred", inbred dogs, doesn't mean some non-profit place ought to be able to do it to. This is an adaption center, not a pet store. We ought to be able to buy one of "those dogs" for cheaper. They get them for free, they don't have to pay some puppy mill for them.

i'm adopting a cat this weekend, and we looked at the prices of our local humane society. they charge $100 for a cat and $125 for a dog. it sounds like your humane society is actually a pet store and should thus be paying taxes - right? i would double check with your local ASPCA on their status.
