In 1993 I had a small account with this company. The account was paid on time and paid in full. It showed up as negatory on my credit report. I went in to the store and they said it would be removed from the record and it was their error. In 1999, like an idiot, I opened another account with Heilig-Meyers. I had went in and paid the account in full to reduce my monthly debt in 2000.

Now It is showing a balance of $851 in neragatory debt on my credit. The week after I paid the account the business location was closed down and it is rumored that the company has gone into bankruptcy. I have these 2 marks on my credit and they are now causing me to have to struggle and fight to try to get a mortgage loan and buy a home for my family.

How to resolve negative Heilig Meyers accounts!

I ran into the same problem last year, but was able to resolve it very easily.

If you send a dispute to the credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion), they will then send a form to the company. If the information cannot be verified (or if they don't respond, since they are closed) the entire account will be automatically removed from your credit report.
This must be done by law, according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

You can even send in your dispute online by going to www.equifax.com. It takes about 5 minutes of your time, but it is well worth it... take my word for it!
