Complaint Review: Herb Chambers BMW of Boston

Herb Chambers BMW of Boston Herb Chambers Boston sold me deceptive extra services Boston Massachusetts

I bought a new card from them.  The used deceptive practice to sell me "Extra's" that they later would not honor.   For instance, they sell a "wheel package".  I was told by the salesman "if you scratch your wheels on a curb (pretty common in Boston-you can't see the curbs), they will replace them for free!  Cost was $1,500.  I had to replace one wheel with the BMW I traded in and it cost $900 so this seemed like a value.  He said just bring your car in and they'll replace all 4 if needed.

I tried to replace one of my wheels. They told me "no, it's only if your WHOLE wheel cracks, like in an accident.  I said what would I need this $1,500 package from you for?  My insurance would cover that?

I really liked the 4 year, 50k "Bumper to Bumper" service plan BMW has.  They also have a plan to extend the "Bumper to Bumper" plan to 7 years/100k so I bought it for $3k.  Well, again, total BS.  It only covers "the engine and transmission", not anything else in the "Bumper to Bumper".

I tried to work it out with these guys.  I complained to the State of Massachusetts who sent it to attorney/legal aid.  They were not able to get through to Herb Chambers for 6+ months.  They finally talked to the head salesman.  He said no, we're not interested in working anything out.

IF YOU ALSO GOT BURNED, I have an attorney who is willing to do a Class-Action Lawsuit against them.  They MUST stop these illegal practices.  Also, the "Better Business Bureau" BBB is useless-they post very few complaints and would not post my complaint.

No, I do not own a BMW. I may be interested in purchasing one if you can substantiate your claim that BMW offers a warranty on parts damaged by the operator.

“I didn't quote you exactly because I didn't have access to your post once I hit ‘file a rebuttal’”

You could have selected New Window from the File Menu and navigated to the report without losing the rebuttal window.

“I am not complaining about the warranty that comes with the car

I know that. That is why I asked you to provide a link to a sales offer of a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty on the BMW website. I still look forward to you supplying that link.

No, I am not an auto sales representative and have never been employed by or have any financial interest in Herb Chambers BMW.

You misquoted me again when you wrote, “'no car warranty provides what you're complaining about.'"

I actually wrote, “I wouldn’t expect any warranty to cover vehicle damage. BMW states that warranty coverage (Ultimate Protection Program) ‘is limited to defects in material or workmanship only.’”

It appears the proper use of quoted text confuses you. I suspect the terms of the written warranty are inconsistent with your quoted account of the terms as explained to you by the sales representative. Perhaps that is why your request for warranty coverage on your damaged wheel was declined.

What is your problem?

First of all, do you own a BMW?  When you buy a NEW BMW, you essentially get "bumper to bumper" coverage for the first 4 years or 50k.  I can remember the salesman say "you don't even have to pay for windshield wipers".

I didn't quote you exactly because I didn't have access to your post once I hit "file a rebuttal" but I believe people got the gist of your post.

Now, Slick, and this is important so make sure you understand what I'm saying, I am not complaining about the warranty that comes with the car.  I'm complaining about the $1,495 wheel coverage plan I paid for as an EXTRA and they sold fraudulently in my opinion.  I'm upset about the $3000 I paid for the "extension to the 4 year "bumper to bumper" plan" that turns out to be nothing more than an engine and transmission plan.  Again, Slick, these are EXTRA's and the salesman called it a "bumper to bumper" and an extension to the "bumper to bumper" plan.

You seem to be a car salesman (at Herb Chambers?).  You haven't even said a thing about the main point of my post.  You just want to tear my post up "cloaked curbs" and "no car warranty provides what you're complaining about".

Go sell a car and rip somebody else off and quit trying to legitimize Herb Chambers.  You just don't get it, Slick.

You incorrectly quoted my statement so your quote of the salesman has limited validity.

I wouldn’t expect any warranty to cover vehicle damage. BMW states that warranty coverage (Ultimate Protection Program) “is limited to defects in material or workmanship only.” Of course that policy may have changed. I was unable to locate a sales offer of a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty on the BMW website. Perhaps I overlooked it. Please provide a link.

You've never lived in Boston have you?

You said "why can't you see the curbs in Boston, are they invisible"?  I can tell you haven't lived in New England.  From December to April it snows like mad.  Guess where they put the snow?  To make matters worse, the curbs are made from granite (New Hampshire is known as the granite state) and granite is really hard and scratches your wheels like you can't believe.  I'm certain that this is a real common "Extra" that is sold by Herb Chambers BMW and many people get upset when they go to get their wheel exchanged and find out it isn't covered.  So, bottom line is, you can't see the curbs because they are covered in snow.

“pretty common in Boston-you can't see the curbs”

Why can’t you see the curbs in Boston? Aren’t they on the side of the roads just as in other cities?
