Brad Stone says he would like 0 complaints but that is a lie. Even their BBB rating is not longer "Satisfactory".

I used to work at Heritage in tech support. Everything was about making money not helping the customers. We were to always upsell. I was told I wasn't doing my job if I wasn't selling at least $300 worth of 'upgrades' per day.

I remember Heritage once made a dumb mistake with their security certificates causing ecommerce websites to come up as insecure in EVERY browser. Management would say there is nothing they can do and it was internet explorer's fault (lies) and to sell them an upgraded version of the 'zencart'.

In trainings it is not about how to fix common website problems but how to sell. They would say "These people have money to spend don't feel bad"

They would hire anybody even with no computer experience. I had worked several years as a Network Administrator before working for heritage so I knew how to resolve many problems and get things done. Regardless many of the tech support people have to figure it out on their own or lie and tell them 'someone is working on it'. We were told never to commit to anything nor give deadlines just to tell them it will be done when its done.

The Terms of Service means no matter what you don't get your money back. It also means that you are to never speak evil of the company. Employees are to sign one saying we are not to 'reveal company secrets'. Well I just did. Their secret is to sell until you run out of money and never properly complete a site. Or if you are one of the lucky ones that gets a good site you get none of the maintenance you should.

They NEVER do back ups of sites. The terms of service says they don't have to. So if your site is ever hacked or crashed (which happened at least 15 times to multiple sites in the 3 months I worked there) Heritage is not responsible for not having a backup. But they will gladly sell you a new site or hours to rebuild your site. They also tell you that you can make your own backups but only after you have paid a year's hosting in advanced.

They will tell you that you are getting the best deal for unlimited bandwidth for $60 a month. Go to (((competitor's name redacted)))and you will get that AND more for $7 a month. Not only that they charge and extra $20 a month for 'virus and spam' protection. If you use google to handle your mx records (ie email) you will get all that free and all of gmail's great features! Not the crappy mail system Heritage uses.

Most of the upgrades installed on a site come from open source products. In other words they got it for free made some slight changes to it and sold it to you for $1,000.

Advice to anyone thinking of working with them: Don't! Advice to those who have just begun working with them: STOP! Get what money back you can and cancel your credit card or the WILL charge it again and again.

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company, ..plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome. CLICK here to see why Rip-off Report, as a matter of policy, deleted either a phone number, link or e-mail address from this Report. In this case we removed an alleged competitor's name

Can you help me?

I don't even know where to start...HWS did a website for me and I've been in update hell for the past several months. LONG LONG story, too tired to go into the whole thing, and it would just be a repeat of all the other complaints on here about them. I even saw the CEO of HWS post on here asking anyone with a problem to contact him for help...I DID that THREE times and still have had NO response.
My question to you is: I paid for two years of hosting (yes, I know, really stupid), BUT since I've paid am I entitled to my website files? I want several changes to the site and I'm sick of dealing with them, and sick of always having to cough up more money. Last "enhancement" was $500 for a year of hosting, SEO and a blog...they did the SEO, but I haven't been able to get anywhere with the blog. At this point I'd rather pay someone else to fix what I want fixed...but can I continue hosting with them since it's paid?
BY the way, when I asked the salesman WHY they didn't build the site with SEO to begin with he said "not everyone wants their site to be found" NO JOKE!
I really really WANT to be happy with them, but they are wearing me down.
With all the social networking sites (facebook, myspace, twitter) I'm surprised HWS isn't more concerned about customer service. Between myself, my kids, and my friends we have over 4000 "friends" on various sites...so far I haven't brought this up on those sites, but I'm heading in that direction, no one should have to go through all this BS and lose as much money as I've lost on this project.
Any help or advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Cindy
