I am in the process of pitching out an HP computer. Why?

Because they cannot be upgraded! HP will not support an upgrade and supply drivers for their crappy Rockwell/Conexant/Riptide modem/soundcard combo.

The motherboard cannot be replaced with a standard card. Even the power source is proprietary and must be ordered from HP.

None of this is in the literature supplied with the machine. You find out later when you try to do a repair or replace something.

HP web support is a joke! All you can find out about upgrading there is that HP doesn't want you to upgrade. I do not feel that is HP's decision to make. The only thing fouling me up according to the upgrade advisor is the lack of drivers; my hardware is more than capable otherwise.

My other computer is a Gateway and every driver needed to do an upgrade is right there on the customer support website. If there is a problem, the techs are right there to help and offer guidance.

My HP is being replaced by a Gateway. There are enough tyrants in the world without being under the thumb of HP!
