The packaging tells how much ink is in the cartridge

The packaging tells how much ink is in the cartridge. The last time I purchased an HP cartridge, it had something like 0.3 ounce of ink in it. How do you consider this a rip off when they disclose the amount of ink right on the package? If you don't agree with the amount, don't buy the cartridge!

All ink jet printers brands are like that....

....not just HP. They practically give the printers away - because they make the money on the ink cartridges.

In addition to the fact that there is not a lot of ink in the cartridge, have you noticed that every time you put a new cartridge in your machine it has to go through some "alignment" process where it uses your new ink to print on a sheet of paper? They are designed that way to use your ink up.

If you are printing black and white, your best bet is to get a small laser printer. The initial cost might seem like it is higher. But if you look at your cost over a period of time is ends up saving you a lot of money. Calculate what a per-page cost is with a laser compared to an ink-jet.....there is a big difference with the ink-jet costing so much more per page.
