HP has introduced new printers using ink jet cartridges with capacity of only 5ml for $15.00 (HP-21 black) compared to previous models with 42ml of ink for $30.00 (HP-45 black). This makes the new smaller cartridge equivalent to $168 dollars for the equivalent ink using the new cartridges!

Not only that, HP-21 cartridge prints only approx 50 pages of medium density text, which is a cost in ink of 30 cents per page!

In going to the computer stores, it is easy to be shocked by the Great HP Ink Jet Cartridge Ripoff, with some cartridges going for as much as $70 with only half as much ink as earlier versions.

Clearly, HP thinks we are stupid because most consumers do not pay attention to this until it is too late. Epson and other manufacturers have resisted scamming consumers with dinky cartridges, and should be rewarded with our business. I have bought nine HP printers over the years, but never again! This lack of integrity makes me wonder about other HP products.

Epson is the worst.

Epson may not reduce the size of the cartridges BUT they put chips in the that make them much harder to refill. That means more junk in our landfills. Shame on them both.

Change Printers

HP is not the first to do this. Lexmark led the way with the first machine to do everything and then got their money from refills.

I have only used Epson printers since they have been making printers for many years. I also buy generic (ProColor) refills. I get 4 black and 3 color for about $30.

If people stop buying HP printers and cartridges, they'll get the message. Have you looked for any generic cartridges for your lp?

They sell those printers for next to nothing, like $29 or $39 or less and then they charge you out the butt for the ink cartridges. It figures. THAT is a ripoff. When I looked at the size of the cartridge I was amazed at how small it was. My old HP cartridge lasted a couple of years. This new one was about the size of a postage stamp compared to the old one, which was about half the size of an envelope.
