I purchased an HP Media Center 2 years ago, and it is barely surviving as of now. So far, the DVD Burner has gone bad, the CD Burner, the Power Supply, the DDR, and the CPU Fan. HP did replace the DVD burner (the new one has already gone bad as well), but none of the other items were replaced due to the expiration of the warranty. They did refer me to purchase replacement parts, but they were charging $219.99 for a power supply. I did find another from a different company for $50.00. The Media Center was manufactured with a poor cooling which is what caused the other parts to malfunction.

I have replaced both the DVD Drives with new DVD burners, but they too quit working after 3 months. What gets me is that this computer was $999.99 and lasted for only to years, but older computers I bought are still working fine. HP is just going downhill on creating quality merchandise. I assume they do it on purpose so that you will be forced to keep buying newer computers or buy those "so called" waranties.

I would not recommend purchasing a Media Center from HP, and my next computer will not be an HP. I've learned my lesson. The **** **** computer I purchased in 2001 is still working fine, so I think that will be my next choice because I heard they are making Media Centers now.

Media Center Price Jump Scam

OK, check this out. What is a Media Center? It is a computer enhanced with the ability to watch and record television on the PC. I was just doing price comparisons on the new Media Center d4650y series advertised at $999.99 on the HP website. But look really closely - it DOES NOT include the TV Tuner w/remote control. They are charging an additional $159.99 for it. How can they advertise it as a Media Center, when it is not pre-packaged as one? It makes no sense. Even more reason to not buy another HP.
