Complaint Review: Hewlett Packard

Hewlett Packard rebate ripoff cheated me out of a rebate that I sent to them numerous times but they say they never received it. The post office did not screw up that many times. Mesa Arizona

In December 2003 I bought a computer from circuit city under the impression I was going to receive a rebate from HP and circuit city. I had to send both over again, but I did finally receive the rebate from circuit city. HP however said they received the paperwork for the ink rebate, but not for the pc. I still have not received the ink package rebate, and they still claim to have never received my pc rebate info. My feeling is that if you don't plan to give rebates you dont offer one. I hate thieves.

Rebates are the same as free money. Scammers always use the word free. It's their trademark.

Mark, you were offered a rebate because it sells stuff. It's a marketing gimmick. People actually believe that they can pay to buy something, then get some of the money back for free.

Free is always the haulmark of a con. There is no such thing as something for free. Most people know that. But, there are always a few who fall for this. They buy a computer thinking they will get something back for free. They send in all kinds of papers and receipts over and over. Most of them never get anything in return.

HP has to offer a rebate in order to sell their stuff. Of course, they don't actually want to give you money back. Do you want them to be honest with you? That will never happen. If they were honest, you wouldn't buy the computers and HP would go out of business.

The smart person understands that no rebate will come. They compare the full price of one computer against the full price of the competitor's computer. Act like the rebates don't exist. Then you will be able to make an intelligent decision.
