Hideaway Campground ripoff reservation, lack of concern, wasted trip, smelly accomodations, and cottage resort campground Mears Michigan
We had confirmed (in writing from them) a 2 bedroom cottage we rented for 4 nights. Upon arrival, they sent us to our cottage only to find out that it was a single room (it smelled like mold also).
We went back to the registration office explained that they gave us the wrong cabin, our was to be a 2 bedroom since we had 2 teenagers (male and female - boyfriend and girlfriend). They went to "ask" the people that took our cabin to relocate into the one bedroom... they refused, so the desk clerk returned and said, sorry... they won't move!!!
Well, It's now Sunday night 10:30pm on a holiday week... we just drove 4 hours and the owner wouldn't even come into the registration area to hear my complaint!
They just said here is your deposit back, maybe you can find a TRAILOR in another park, they told me where I might find one and said they all have the same rates... bye.
Upon finding a "70's" trailor for rent, it was $40.00 more per night, which took $160.00 away from our vacation fund.
In reading the confirmation from the campground, I notice they would charge me a 50% fee if I canceled!... But they can cancel without penalty. This is wrong, and they should reimburse us for the stress, innconvienence and extra cost they caused us on our vacation!
