An Internet Service Provider is a Utility and should be held accountable as one! It can no longer be looked at simply a nicety but as crucial to the lively hood of mass millions.

I shopped for an affordable dial-up internet service provider via CNET on the web. If you not familiar with CNET, they offer a comparison shopping services for many computer-shopping geeks. CNET rates highstream.net as very high quality. But has CNET been mislead?

On numerous occasions (at least five) my highstream.net service would be dumped and it would take several hours to bring it up again! Upon calling tech support, the fix was to give me another username that I was to use when the other did not work. The problem with this bizarre fix was that the other user name didn't usually work right away. I think they may have over sold their equipment capabilities, though just a hunch.

Also, this IS NOT Unlimited Access as Advertised on CNET. If you go past 10 hours per day they will shut down your account WITHOUT NOTICE! This I found out the hard-way when my kids came home on college break! 10 hours...BAMMO, PUNTED Your DONE! You will be forced to open a new account and loose all of your e-mail from your old one. Upon calling tech support I was instructed to send an e-mail to legal@highstream.net. How can I send an e-mail without the internet? Oh yea, Brian the supervisor (a gift to genius) suggested that I borrow a friends service!

Advice: keep shopping! There are many low cost dial-up services out there that are much easier to work with, seamless, much more dependable and way less bizarre.

I intend on contacting the Better Business Bureau, the Rip Off Report, CNET, etc. If you have had a similar experience I would recommend doing the same.
