Someone from Hiko Energy knocked on my door yesterday asking if I had received/returned my consumer bill of rights.  When I said that I had not received anything, they asked to see the latest copy of my bill.  I explained that I was home sick and it wasn't the best time so I took down their information.  When I asked if this was about my ConEd account and if I could contact them directly about this issue, I was told that I could.  At no time did the rep explain that Hiko Energy is a different company, a competitor to ConEd, or that submitting my information would/could change my provider from ConEd to Hiko.

Before doing anything, I did some research and discovered that Hiko is a different company and that there are a number of bait and switch related complaints against them.  I also read that, once switched, it would be next to impossible to rectify the situation.

The person who came to my door was Sharon Fraser (badge #8603).  Again, she concentrated on this consumer bill of rights.  I was told to go to Hiko Energy, to sign up, to ask for a copy of my bill or rights, and to get a confirmation number.  She never told me that signing up would ostensibly switch my provider from ConEd to Hiko.
