This complaint about Hilton Grand Vacations Club has been a long time in the works due to repeated frustrations in dealing with them. My wife and I attended a slickly presented sales pitch in Orlando during the summer of 2010. All the information and statistics presented seemed accurate and reasonable. Like the sucker born every minute we were "sold" on the promise of a fantasy and left with the disappointing reality of handing our hard earned money over for a myth. Many "Grand Vacation" tales were spun by the salesperson - how much we wold save on the average week or two week vacation over the years if we bought; the conveinence of booking club reservations from home without hassle; our points would be the same year in and year out protecting us from increases in the cost of purchasing a hotel room, and many more. The worst and most desirous myth we bought into was the falsity that the value of our fractional ownership would increase over the years and it would be very desirable at some future point for oters to buy our fractional ownership at a discount relative to whatever the current market value Hilton was offering their myth for, as long as you gave them first right of refusal to purchase (another myth - they are not interested in ever buying your ownership back) - ( we verified this by attending another sales presentation several years after our initial purchase - amazing how they were charging substantially more). The problem came when we started attempting to make vacation plans. We would frequently go onto their online reservation site and it was not an infrequent occurrence to try to make plans at say three, six or even a year out and there was nothing available. I actually went online today (10/19/2013) to see what might be available in Hawaii next summer for a period of 4 to six weeks when our children were off and we could make vacation plans. Guess what, multiple hotels, multiple dates, and nothing. Some were even booked for the entire year. I did the same search at multiple properties and yes, the same scenario. Nothing like paying for something you cant use because the seller probably sold more dreams than supply warranted. The worst part came when we called Hilton Myth Vacation Club to inquire about selling our fractional ownership back to them, as they had first right of refusal. Not interested, but we were free to try to sell it on the open market (we paid $31,000 in 2010 and the current asking price from Hilton was - you guessed it - significantly increased... which makes one curious at to why a savy corportation would not buy their own product at a discount to what they were currently selling the same property for if it actually had Value versus the sales Idea of Value?). Needless to say, we went online to research properties for sale at our "home" property. Yes, again, you guessed it... there were a glut of properties for sale at bargain bottom prices - same scenario what we paid was being offered for $5,000 on average, some more some less, but all less than what the purchaser paid. Suckers all we are - consigned to pay the yearly fees for something very difficult to utilize. One would think that the Hilton scammers would snatch up these properties, again at a huge discount, as they were "going fast and the offer won't last... the opportunity of a lifetime - how much more money they would make if the myth were an actual reality. We advise anyone whom reads this to do their research online - go for yourself and read what the properites are currently selling for before you attend one of their promotional weekend vacations (as long as you attend the sales presentation).... My eyes were wide shut. May yours be Wide Open....
