P.J. Thomas
So, I called interested in hearing more details. I was put on a conference call with suposidly 50 applicants around the US who would be candidates for a "Business Owner Franchise." The conference call lasted an hour (not an 1-800#) on my dime, and then they took a few questions. They went through a small demo but was very vague about the commission structure. Only a model where you put in some basic numbers and you can make 86K per year. Still sceptical, I called 4-5 friends and sent them their web site.
One friend gave me some good advice. To go back and ask to a couple of "Franchise Business Owners" to see how it's going. I asked the "Regional Sales Manager" if I could call on some references.
Here is the Major RED flag that came up: First she said yes I could and the she said no because they wanted to protect their identities. As a professional recruiter who had hired Sales managers for other frachise types of businesses like Insurance agencies, I ALL ways allow candidates to speak with other people doing the business! Even if it's only an investment under $500, it could be a huge start up and your time invested with 3 other sales agents you're suppose to recruit as well.
I asked the Regional Sales Manager what would be the next step. She said to speak with a VP and to have a credit card ready. So, they really don't care who they franchise to? They clearly don't do ANY background checks or references on their so called "Business Franchise Owners"
I have another phone screen with the VP of sales and will follow-up with more. However, if they see this posting, I might not be "selected."
Signed, VERY skeptical Business Owner Franchise Applicant.

Dear Marc,
I work for HireBug and have done for a few months now. I have read all you have written with great interest. I know nothing to either confirm or deny anything you have said about previous companies. I can see from what you have written that you have very strong personal feelings with regards to the owners of our company (HireBug) and do not wish to sway you either way on this matter. In fact, I can appreciate how angry it makes people when they feel they have been wronged by a company.
I can only speak about what I know to be fact and am writing this to dispel some rumors and to add a different perspective to this. Before I started working for HireBug, I knew nothing about the company or its owners - so in essence am fresh to this apparent on-going saga. I am positive you could rip my post to shreds, as I could have with yours, and hope you are above doing so as you and I have no personal history or argument between us. This is also a one-off post and will not be a running dialog.
In writing to this board, I will firstly point out that I am under no obligation to do so, and nor will I be recompensed or recognized in any way, in fact - no one knows I am writing this! (I guess they soon will). Within this post I have used my real name and I can be looked up on the company website.
I consider myself to be a good and professional person, and would never dream of scamming anyone, and would not work for a company that I felt would - and that is a fact! I don't have to. My credentials can secure me with a career position within many industries. I work with good people who are passionate about what they do, and I have never worked within such a team environment where every single person in a company cares about the organization as much as this one. We are all just people with families making a living, like the vast majority of people out there working for other companies!!!
Our team consists of a great deal of experience in a whole spectrum of different businesses. The Divisional Owners are an extended part of our team, and the thing I most like about HireBug is we come good on what we promise. Part of my job is dealing with our Divisional Owners. I know how they are trained, recruited and constantly supported by our team of regional managers. I have seen how we continue to improve our systems, and how well our clients are treated. I have been part of management meetings and have seen the professionalism and pride that is taken by every member of staff. I have a great deal of respect for all of my colleagues, in both their intent and commitment in helping not only HireBug but Divisional Owners become successful.
HireBug is a legitimate company with a real office that provides a legitimate and cost saving service to companies. The fact that this is a Rip-Off Report and that you said So what if you got no complaints, what does that prove? concerns me. I'm truly for consumer forums when used properly and believe they can positively impact the direction a company takes in regards to providing its customer service. But the fact we don't have any complaints I think should speak volumes about the company. The reason we have no complaints is because not only are we a legitimate company, but if we can not provide companies with the qualified candidates they are seeking, they do not pay. Obviously it is in our best interests to help them find the staff they need to fill their vacancies. As for Divisional Owner's investments, we continually work with them on a partner basis and again, it is in our best interests that they succeed, because if they don't succeed, then we don't succeed as a company.
We do not take money from members of the general public for our services and save a whole host of companies' large sums of money on recruiting and advertising costs. I do not feel our service or method of doing business is controversial in any way. From reading your previous posts I have seen that you refer to similarities between HireBug and other companies. To this I say - if it's not broke, don't fix it. I know every business person of any merit agrees with that principle, and alone does not constitute a solid argument to prove wrong doing. I was once told by a mentor to take what works in a company onto every other company that I ever work for, as that is true experience. That proves nothing, but a good business person is one that learns from both mistakes and triumphs.
My position within the company involves being able to jump in and aid every single department, so I consider myself to have one of - if not the best working knowledge of HireBug aside from the Owner & Senior Executives. I KNOW there are no malpractices happening within HireBug!
Now I realize you may think I am nave, and see this company through rose tinted glasses, but please let me assure you that I have been in business for myself owning my own professional companies for many years and know how to smell a rat at fifty paces. No company is perfect, but I can assure you that HireBug is not a front for demons, terrorists, mobsters, drug dealers, cults or anything else. You may also assume that I am within the inner circle, and that too would be in error as I don't believe there is one. I go to work, be the most I can be and go home to my family, nothing more or less sinister than that.
I get paid, and so does every single member of staff at HireBug including Divisional Owners and Account Executives. We do not ask anyone to work for nothing. Divisional Owners own their own businesses and are paid in a very expedient manner. It's their responsibility to recruit, train and pay Account Executives. As you rightly point out that when an Account Executive becomes vested they secure a life time residual payment on any business generated by their accounts. That does not mean they do not get paid until they are vested, simply that they have a goal to work for. By suggesting that a commission only position is less than, wrong or criminal would put the insurance, automotive, real estate and many other industries out of business along with some large financial organizations. How many other positions give life time residuals and go from commission to a base salary with benefits on a licensee's behalf for their 1099 staff?
In essence, I am writing to assure you that no wrong doing is being done, and as I said at the start of this post, I would quit at the first sign of anything untoward happening. The people I work with are good, honest and hard working individuals who recognize the huge potential HireBug has for their careers, for the Divisional Owners, for the Account Executives and for our customers.
I know you will not accept all I have written and realize you are angry, and also accept that the modeling industry is a very controversial place at the best of times.
I can only speak from experience, but in all my dealings with Joe Gomez, I have found him to be nothing but professional, ethical and fair, and there is no doubt in my mind that he is the true owner of the company. Dr. Defrawi is clearly extremely knowledgeable and operates purely on a business consultant level and has also been very straight-forward, ethical and open in his approach. Once again, I realize you will not agree with me, but this has been my experience from having worked with them over the past few months.
I do not believe you are an unreasonable person, and can see from your posts you are quite intelligent. But I do believe you feel you have a valid reason for the anger you exhibit towards any former member of the modeling company, and without knowing about your specific experience do not dispute your case.
What I would like to ask of you though is that you think about what I have taken the time to write, consider the employees who have dedicated themselves to making HireBug an ethical success story and at least only post negative things based on complaints that are specifically related to HireBug.
This is a very different company and business model to the modeling companies you mentioned and as I explained above, runs quite a bit differently than what you portray on your post. All of us at the company have worked too hard to make HireBug what it is today. I would ask you consider this if not for the company, but for the Divisional Owners who have invested both their money and more so their time, efforts and livelihoods into this company and feel sure you do not wish to harm their businesses, their families or anyone else not connected to a previous experience.
Thank you in advance for considering my request.
Martin.
