I purchased an Hitachi DVD-CAM, DZ-MV100A for $2000.00 in early 2001 before it was packaged with a DVD-ROM that could read the 8cm discs. I have enjoyed making videos and still pictures as it is a great system.

However, I upgraded my computer to Windows XP for a number of reasons in Nov 2001 and contacted Hitachi USA about upgrading the DVD-CAM drivers so I could continue to use the USB interface.

I was told the new drivers would be released by March 2002. I contacted Hitachi USA again in late March and was told "However, due to various issues, Microsoft will not be helping us out on this one. If you'd like to transfer the video, I can suggest that you use the DVD-RAM disc (which the camera uses) in a DVD-ROM drive that can read them. You'd need to check with the manufacturer of your drive to see if it can read: "8 cm 4.6 GB compatible DVD-RAM discs." If it can not, you can either purchase a internal DVD-ROM drive or external Firewire DVD-ROM drive on our website."

In other words, Hitachi will not support this very expensive product!!!!

I believe more people should know about Hitachi's failure to support this expensive product before purchasing Hitachi equipment! I certainly will not purchase Hitachi equipment again.
