Leased a 1999 VW New Beetle advising salesman car was going to CA. Asked about emission control and whether it would meet CA standards. Told yes. Finance manager leased car through bank instead of VW. When trying to register in CA, bank advised it could only be registered in PA, DE or NJ. Holbert's would not do anything except suggest I buy car at price well over value. Holbert's refused to re-lease car through VW even at the request of the President of VW-North America.

Succeded in maintaining PA registration and now with lease up bank will not allow car turned in to anyplace but original dealer - Holbert's who refuses to do anything except demand car be brought or shipped to their location in PA. Personally spoke to Mr. Holbert who simply did not give a d**n.

Persuaded many friends and former neighbors not to shop there. Holbert's should be boycotted. Their salesman, sales manager, finance manager and owner made a mistake and would not take responsibility.

As much as I love the car, I will never buy or lease another VW product because of VW's inability to make Holbert's do the right thing and of their refusal to do so when Holbert's wouldn't. Action is being taken against Holbert's at the BBB and other consumer reporting agencies.

Update on Holbert's

After being contacted by the BBB, Holbert's agreed to pay for shipping the car back to PA. However, Bob Johnson, Finance Manager, stated that Holbert's should not be responsible for the "position Mr. Krauss put himself in." The BBB asked if I was satisfied.

I advised the BBB that the only "position I put myself in" was going to Holbert's in the first place. I purchased a home in California and placed my Pennsylvania home for sale an entire year before leasing the car from Holbert's and advising the salesman that the car would go to CA. I replied tothe BBB that I would not be satisfied until Holbert's terminated the lease.

Now I only have 4 months left on the lease. The car will go back and I will never have todealwith these people again - but to others, I say BEWARE!
