I rented a houseboat from Holiday Cruise Yacht Charters/Ruoti, Inc in June 2006 and sent a security deposit check for $1500 to Holiday before the rental. Owner Dave Manno did an inspection of the boat on the last day of our rental and I was told that everything checked out fine. Two weeks later I received an invoice for $1413.69 and a refund check for $86.31. $1413.69 had been deducted from my $1500 deposit for fuel and repairs, etc.

I had submitted a written report before the rental began indicating that there was a dysfunctional shift cable, the cable broke the first day and I was charged $370 for misuse. We were caught in Tropical Storm Alberto on the 4th 5th and 6th day of our rental, had to tie up at a marina and was charged $600 because we couldn't get the boat back due to the storm. We were charged $126 for carpet cleaning-stains throughout the kitchen, stairs and pilothouse which was grossly exaggerated.

I wish I had checked with the Better Business Bureau before the rental as I found that Manno had 18 complaints filed against Holiday Cruise Yacht Charters in the last 36 months. When I told Manno that I was going to file a complaint with the BBB, he said File your complaint, you belong with the other irresponsible people who did not want to pay for their damages. We didn't cause damages and we won't be doing business with Manno again.
