My mother stayed at a Holiday Retirement Community for over 4 years. Each year her rent was raised around $90 to $150 per month. Over the four years it went up over a total of $350 per month which is almost $4000 per year. Rough on an 88year olds fixed retirement.  During this time several weeks at a time she was unable to stay in her apartment due to Illness , injury and One time because Management did a lock down due to illness in the faclity. Family was advise to take their family members out of the facility until lock down was over. This went on for over Three weeks with no finacial consideration or refund. Many Managers came and went. Many services promised were not available much of the time. Bus transportation was not offered on Sat or Sunday. Maintance was slow to be done.

At 88 my mother passed away after about 6 months with teminal illness. Her rent was continued even after her passing for another 30 days. Even though no food was being consumed, services not used and room vacant the rent continues. There is no possible way to give 30 day notice due to death. No company should continue rent under these circumstances and most do not. When I asked the managers to show a bit of Remorse and accept the two weeks rent already paid but don't bill for more they said there was nothing they could do and that Holiday Management was responcible. Many times through the 4 years, When asked something or needed a problem solved, the answer was from Management that they had no control and t was Corporate. When talking to Corporate it was the Local Managers. Never a Straigh answer and always passing the buck.
