I worked for Hollywood Video for 3 years, may of 2003 to may of 2006. I started out as a GSR and quickly moved up to store director. Four months after making store director, I was sent to Iraq for 8 months, when I returned, federal law said hollywood only had 3 days to return me to work. It took them three wekks to bring me back, only after I threatend to report them, when they did bring me back I was sent to a different store.

Everything was fine until I started making my employee's do the job they were paid to do. Two shift leaders, Lanissa and Jennifer started complaining about the work, and started begging customers to call and complain about me. So the customers started calling and complaining about all the drama in the store so the district manager, Scott Riggs decided I should be fired even though the guests were not complaining about me. So one day a store manager from another store was at my store helping me, when a guest came in and told me my employees hated me and were asking guests to call and complain. When Me and the other store manager told Scott Riggs about this, he said that an investigation should be done on my shift leaders.

On May first Scott Riggs called me at home and said I was being placed on administrative leave, but that he was on my side and I would not be fired. Three days later I was called in to be questioned and was told two female employees said i made sexual comments to them, after thirty minutes, Rhonda Phelps, she works in human resources, and Scott Riggs told me I was being fired for "innapropriate behavior", which was not true becuase I had been with the company for three years and was never once written up or talked to about anything like that, but I know the truth, Scott was not happy I was in the Army Reserves and had to take one weekend off a month and serve my country, I know this becuase he told me in a phone conversation that I was not wanted back with the company after I came back.

This is the worst company to work for AND THEY DO NOT SUPPORT THE MEN AND WOMEN SERVING THIS GREAT COUNTRY!!! If you are a veteran, please do not spend your money at this company, they are not deserving of your hard earned money.

Hold my job for a while so I can work somewhere else.

This is why I will never, in any management role I have, hire anyone that is in the military.  It's complete BS that companies have to hold your job for you while you go work another job.  I couldn't tell my boss "Hey, I'm going to go work for Target for a year, but when I get done there I expect my job back within three days or I'll sue you!"  I'll buy into the whole serving your country line when you do it without receiving a salary.  Until then, it's a job like any other job.

State or Federal

USERA is a Federal Program and state employees are not handling those cases. However D.O.L. V.E.T.S. would handle this. I think you are dealing with local policy as well. We have a Hollywood Video that does everything it can to accomodate the veterans. They have even taken donations of tapes and CD's to ship to Ft. Hood for shipment overseas.

Every business has jerks in management positions and there is nothing to be done about that. Let the Federals handle this and if a case is indeed there they will solve the problem or fine the company. The carry a big hammer. Time is also of the essence with them. They will not "slow things down". Their job is to get what is best for the veteran and as quickly as possible. I am sorry if someone had a bad experience with the "State" again not everyone with the state operates that way. There are dedicated, hard working vet reps in this state that have, until recently, been held at bay to do thier jobs properly. Texas Veterans Commission now has the employment program and I look for things to improve greatly.

Understandable

I understand your aggression, but I don't the poster meant anything by the bitching comment, only used it as humor. Their suggestions, however, were warrented and expected in the accusations you are stating. If everything you said is true, and I have no reason to doubt you, then take it to a lawyer, the state only slows things down. A good lawyer would be chomping at the bit for a case like you have stated!

Either way, good luck and thank you for your service to our country!

your response was of no help and as far as the bitching goes, I am not bitching, just letting the world know how hollywood treats its vets, and for your information, this matter is being handled by the state labor dept.

A Solution

#9Consumer Suggestion

Have you considered calling the state wage and hour department? Hollywood has printed policies and procedures which they may be in direct violation. As a vet, there are certain legal avenues you can take. Have you contacted an attorney? Bitching about something is like sitting in a rocking chair; gives you something to do but doesn't get you anywhere!

Good Luck and Welcome Back!
