I bought a used car for my 71 year old father from Hollywood Kia for about 7K. Car looks good, dirves good when i first drove it. took it home after signing all documents including something saying was bought as is ( my father signed the documents) .. in a week car broke down. we took the car to a machenic his initial assesment was $1000 to fix all borken items. There was oil leaking, wind shield wiper was not working due to pump broken, shocks were leaking, coolant hose was broken, etc. We went back to the dealer to see if we can void the deal or find a different car or he is willing to fix any of these items. His answere was, 'this is not publix'. The refer us to visit his brother's auto repair named

If you're not willing to cover repairs when the car breaks down, you should not be buying used cars "as is".     The term has a very specific meaning.    It means that once you drive away, any problems belong to you.   You don't appear to be happy with those terms.   Not much you can do about this car, but in the future, I strongly suggest you don't buy "as is".   Your expectation that any dealer will be interested in fixing an "as is" purchase is not realistic.

If you should decide to buy an "as is" car in the future, the only way you can protect yourself is to have the car checked out by a trusted mechanic BEFORE you buy it.    Anyone can take the car to the mechanic AFTER they've bought it, but it's too late then, isn't it?
