Do not fall victim to this, its a scam. They will send someone out to your house saying they are going to test your water and show you all the products they offer at home depot that might appeal to you. They will also ask you how many cars you drive and what model year claiming to put you in a drawing for a free gas card. They will make sure that both you and your spouse are home during this test. It's a sales pitch and all lies. They ask these questions to make sure its worth it to send their sales guy to your home. I guess in their eyes if you drive older vehicles you probably don't have the money for their over priced, rip off system.

They say it will only take a hour but the guy was at my house for almost 3!! The whole time I felt as if I was part of a QVC commerical. Demostration after demostration, video and slideshows one after another trying to convince me my water was hurting my family. Then came the price $9,890!!!! Are you serious? Do people actually fall for this? He tryed to convince me that all the money I would be saving from not purchasing various cleaning products and bottled water would offset the $150 per month payment of 6 years at over 17% interest. Then came the act now or you loose out pitch.

If I wrote him a check tonight I could get the system for $2,000 off. When the guy realized he was loosing me he offered me free soap for a year and some other incentives like a coupon book for various. I asked him for a business card and some info on the system but he had nothing to offer. They want you to act now, which will lead to regrets later. Who trys to sell someone a 10 thousand dollar system with no inforamation to review except for a demostartion on an IPAD? Not even a business card? You're a salesman!! The whole idea here is to make you impuse buy..thats their job and they are good at it.

I will say the guy was very professional. My complaint is not with the salesman or his company. My complaint is with HOME DEPOT for allowing this scam to commence and LYING TO ME. I mean I could go to their store right now and purchase a water softner off the shelf, install it myself to do the SAME thing this guy was claiming his system would for under $1,000. He basically was trying to sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need and take my hard earned money.

BE WARNED. SAY "NO" TO THE HOME DEPOT FREE WATER TEST

A women approached me while shopping in home depot. She was wearing a home depot name badge. They are always walking around the stores approaching customers. Told me Home Depot was offering a "FREE" in home water test. All she needed was my information, how many vehicles I drove and what model year, and my phone number. They called my house 3-4 times a week...never left a message. Finally I picked up when I was actually home. The women on the phone asked me the same questions as the womon in the Home Depot. She also stated that the guy coming to my house was going to test my water and show me all the things "HOME DEPOT" has to offer me. Never mentioned anything about high pressure sales. The name of hthe company who actually came out to my house was claiming to be "Atlantic Water and Air". They claimed alot about their reputation. When the guy left I did my research and found that to all be lies. Like I stated earlier, I also asked for information on system(brochure or name brand) and was not given any. When I asked for a card he didn't have one, a statment other people who had this happen to them claim to be true as well.

The salesman did tell me he has an agreement with Home Depot which allows his company to put people in their stores to approach customers while shopping. He also stated that recent crack downs on telemarketing are the reason for this. Its a shame Home Depot actually allows this to happen, they have to know what is going on here. I have read alot about this online and it is not an isoloated incident. Just google Home Depot or Lowe's FREE WATER TEST scam. You might come up with companies like "Atlantic Water and Air" or "Rainsoft" that are pushig it.

" I asked him for a business card and some info on the system but he had nothing to offer.."

And you took his word for it that he represented Home Depot?  I highly doubt it.  You should ask at Home Depot if they have these people doing this.  I would bet they would be surprised and could use your information to pursue it. You should also report this to your citys bureau that regulates door to door sales.  Likely they should have had a permit.

It sounds to me like a scam with them using the name of a large retailler to Rip you off.

Follow up and let us know what you find out.
