Don't trust Home Depot. They will rip you off if they think you'll just go away. I ordered roof trusses through them and even paid a few hundred dollars more than the lowest bid, because I thought if something goes wrong then Home depot will make them fix it. You know "You can do it we can help".

Their company did NOT design my trusses to the known South Florida Building Code. My Inspector would not pass the trusses. Their company made a minor repair that they thought would suffice but they still did not bring them up to Code.

I COMPLAINED all the way to corporate in Atlanta. They stated that since I did not hire someone to check their engineers work and I signed for it, it's now my problem. I paid their engineer $12,000 dollars to design them properly. Their own paperwork states that they are responsible for proper engineering!! If they were competent they would have followed the known Code.

In the last two years I have spent over $40,000 with Home Depot only to have them turn their backs on me. I had to spend about $5,000 to fix the trusses to Code.

Through talking to other people I have heard many, many other similar situations. They figure you'll probably go away, and for every one customer they loose five new ones walk in the door. I was told this from a manager who got sick of Home Depot and quit to work for another company.

I am taking my next $40,000 plus across the street to Lowes!! DON'T TRUST HOME DEPOT!!!

You sir need to check the facts before you enter an uninformed opinion.
1. Home Depot does not quote building codes.
Correct, but they do subcontract to companies that are
responsible for proper design to current codes.
2. Father is an Architect?
Thats nice, but are his buildings in South Florida? It
is a whole different set of rules for the Hurricane
state. My Architect put down the proper loads, of which
the Home Depot contracted engineer did not follow when
designing the trusses. That was the reason the first
minor repair was done, but they still did not bring
them up to the known South Florida building code, of
which their own contract states they are responsible
for the proper upper, lower, live and dead loads.
3. Talk to an engineer for main reason.
Of course I did. South Florida building code requires
a 10 lb Bottom cord live load. With all the engineers
and inspectors I have spoken with I now know about
these things, of which I trusted the Home Depot
contracted engineer to do properly.
4. 12,000 dollars for trusses.
This is South Florida, not Arizona, building is very
expensive here. I have the reciepts for proof. It is
for three different structures, a large addition, a
detatched garage, and a carport. All designed by the
Home Depot contracted engineer without proper Hurricane
required bottom cord loading.
5. Smell of BS.
You must need a shower after the ignorant BS you
put out for what I know now is a greedy, deceitful,
untrustworthy company. They could have put pressure
on the truss company to do the repairs for a
fraction of the cost that I had to pay. After the
Hurricanes I had to pay a premium for a carpenter!!

Home Depot is never allowed to quote building codes. Second we will order your trusses but we will never ever engineer them. We will order your trusses per your spec's. My father is an architect and has had this problem because the engineer miss calculated the load. You need to talk to your engineer and get the main reason why this was rejected. Why was it the wrong truss, I figured that would be a main point. So I think you messed up or your engineer. Why were you paying him 12,000 were you building a comercial building?? i smell bs.
