Renovated our office space and purchased numerous construction materials from the Vaux Hall location for home depot ( identified as its "superstore"). Since we did not know for sure exactly how much of the material would be needed for the project, asked the sales associate whether the excess ( and unused ) items could be returned. I was repeatedly assured that Home Depot had a liberal return policy and that even if we did not have the receipt, we could still return the unused items for store credit.

Completed the renovations and then attempted to returned the excess and unused items to home depot=. Initially, the woman at the return desk told me that I did not purchase the items from Home Depot. When I pushed back and told her that they were purchased from home depot, she then called in another woman, who told me that the items had been discontuinued and therefore since I did not have the receipt, they could not give me a refund. This time though, she acknowledged that the items had been purcahsed from their store at least but that they would not take the items back.

I pushed back again and out comes Rich, a wise a**  junior manager, who repeats the same line and tells me that since I do not have a receipt, there is nothign that Home Depot will do. In response, I asked him whether Home Depot takes back items without a receipt. He siad that it is up to the manager to decide and since they discontinued carrying the particular color, I could not return it, even though it was still within the 90 day period of time of purchase ( since they took back other items bought at the same time). I then asked for the store manager and I was told ( at 11 am), that he had gone home for the day! What!

So out pops Emil, who tells me that even though it may have been purchased within the 90 day window, not his problem and that Home depot will not honor its return policy, even for store credit. So, if Home depot discontinues a product within 90 days of the date of your purchase of a product from its store and you no longer have the receipt, the Home depot superstore in Vaux Hall NJ takes the position that tough on you and you are out of luck. Nice way to do business and the reason why it continues to lose markat share to the other stores. Disgraceful conduct to ssay the least and the reason why I will never shop there again.
