I contacted them about helping me get caught up with my mortgage. I had to do a preliminary application to make sure I was eligible and they could help me. I did this and was accepted. They wanted $900 in the form of a money order or cash before they would start. I paid them. They took down all my info and I sent the documentation of my income. I was told NOT to contact them - they would contact me. Time passed. I was told that was a part of the normal process. In the meantime I received some info from a HomeSaver bankruptcy attorney cutting me a deal if I used them. I became concerned.

I called my mortgage companyand was told that HOmeSavers had in fact sent over a hardship package but it did not include my finances and they had applied for a foreclosure on my home. HomeSavers had dropped the ball. I immediately sent in all documentation. It took some time but the mortgage company started working with me directly.

In the meantime HomeSavers had one of their Real Estate agents call me. What a rip off, scam!!!

I placed numerous phone calls to HomeSavers and was referred to people who were not in and would not return my call. I sent a letter to the president, David Moakler and he didn't respond either.

I filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office. I was told they had been addressing some concerns as well and HomeSavers would not respond either.

I went to WRAL - TV and they are still investigating it.

I called again and finally spoke with someone one - Connie Smith. She was defensive and angry. She wouldn't let me speak. She stated they weren't in breach because: I didn't lose my house and I didn't have an exit plan therefore I wasn't entitled to a full refund as stated in their advertisement.

I looked and couldn't find anything she said in the fine print. My home was saved because of my actions not theirs and I want my money back.

One of their advertisement says "MONEY BACK GUARANTEE". They don't tell you what the stipulations are - Perhaps they write it as they go along.

STAY AWAY - they prey on people in need like you and I and they have so many loop holes to cover themselves because they can't meet their promises. Plus, it allows them to make off with your money and you are left stuck with trying to get it back and more importantly YOU MAY LOSE YOUR HOME. STAY AWAY!!!!!!

We have responded to this complaint by issuing a full refund to the client, as a gesture only. It was issued on Jan 31, and should be received by Feb 5.

Although we help over 1800 families per year with their mortgage problems, with under 20 complaints, we're always trying to improve our service.

We do our very best to help homeowners who are behind on their payments. During the time that we're preparing and sending a workout report to the lender, we ask the homeowner to be patient and let us be the point of contact with their mortgage copany. After the report is received, their conversations with the lender are much more productive.

Any implied relationship with real estate agents is unfounded. If a client wishes to persue alternatives while we're working, we can sometimes offer contacts if they wish. Since it is our duty to help the client avoid foreclosure, we'll offer the name of an attorney who has agreed to reduce their initial fees, should they need to resort to legal assistance. It's a backstop, should we be unsuccessful in reaching common ground with the mortgage company.

Our guarantee is pretty simple actually. If a homeowner loses their to foreclosure while following our simple instructions, they are entitled to a full refund of any fees paid.

We understand that clients in trouble with their mortgage need counseling and assistance. We turn away all homeowners who cannot present a good argument that they should get a workout arrangement with their lender. This amounts to 2/3rds of all callers.

But even when the client knows we were on their side the whole time, they sometimes lash out at the last group they worked with. We understand that attorneys who are retained in advance, sometimes get the same complaints.
