I found an ad on Puppy Find listing puppies for sale from Hoover Acres in Indiana, and knowing there are lots of puppy mills in that state, I called and also email Lori Hoover several times to be sure I wasn't going to buy from one.

I must admit her ad on Puppy Find was well written, the puppies were registered with AKC and up to date on their shots so I figured they were most likely coming from a good home and AKC is supposed to inspect breeders that register their puppies with them. When we spoke on the phone Lori said she was a 'co breeder' of the dogs which made me a little nervous so I asked her what color the parents were, and right then and there I should have known there was a problem because she had to shuffle through some papers to give me the answer meaning she either handles lots of other dogs or has no interaction with the actual dogs she's selling, but I made a mistake and adopted one anyways.

On the day of pickup when we started getting closer to her house I noticed we were driving farther and farther into Amish/Mennonite country and I don't have any problems with them BUT I do know that a lot of them operate puppy mills and work with "english" people to sell their puppies for them which is exactly what Lori Hoover and "Hoover Acres" does.

When we got to Lori's house there weren't any dogs there- no parents, no kennels, no paw prints in the yard, nothing but my puppy sitting in a crate in their living room and it was quite clear that Lori was just the seller and not the actual person raising the puppy. I was horrified but how could I leave him sitting there all alone knowing what he would be returned to.

After I asked a few questions we got down to the paperwork and I noticed an Amish persons name on the AKC papers and I was horrified that I had done all this work, come this far, only to find out that I was supporting a cause I was totally trying to avoid. I asked Lori how many breeds she raises and she named off two but I later looked her up on Puppy Find again and she had several others listed, all different ages, different breeds, all with the same ad I found my puppy under. I got even more upset when I looked up the name of the Amish person listed as the breeder online and found him to be in trouble with the USDA for animal care violations and under the spot light of many animal rescue groups labeling him as a puppy mill, doing under cover work showing the disgusting conditions the puppies are raised in.

My puppy was fine at pickup, he was friendly and looked to be healthy but little did I know that I would be dealing with long term problems with Giarrdia. He has been on several types of medication since I have had him and Giardia is really, really hard to get rid of so I have to take weekly stool samples to the vet, clean and disinfect everything like the plague has entered my house and continue to spend mass amounts of money on trying to get him healthy.

I am extremely disappointed that the actual breeder of these puppies hasn't been put out of business and also extremely disappointed that Lori Hoover and "Hoover Acres" thinks that it's morally OK to tell people you are a co-breeder when you are actually just a third party marketing puppies to try and cover up where they actually came from.

If you are considering adopting a puppy please make sure you do lots and lots of research on the breeder before you adopt from them because there are lots of wonderful breeders out there but of course the bad ones really try to hide themselves well. If someone tells you they are a 'co breeder' and the puppy is registered be sure and get the name of the person listed as the breeder on their papers and do research on them first before putting down a deposit. If I had asked that one question before I put down a deposit on my puppy I would have instantly known what type of sick and disgusting environment he was really raised in.

We too had a bad experience. Had to put our 18 month old pup down. Had heart issues, allergies requiring daily shots and caused lots of ear infections, had really bad hips already by 18 months and could hardly walk. This family pet was a family heart breaker and I say shame on me for not doing my research first. We should have known when we asked to meet the doggy parents and were given excuse after excuse as to why we couldn't. This was about three years ago and now we are in the market to take on another pup. Definitely doing homework on brewers this time and unfortunately I can't recommend Hoover Acres.

I got a dog from Lori Hoover around 5 months ago, at first I was nervous because I read bad comments online.. now I know those comments were false.  I'm glad I made the decision of buying it because my dog "Bailey" is very healthy, plays a lot and is very friendly. He had all his vaccinations when I got him, and I always take him to the vet to make sure he's doing fine.

I also wanted to mention that my dog Bailey is on the Buzz Feed news, and I'm so happy! https://www.buzzfeed.com/remysmidt/i-believe-in-you?utm_term=.qk92GjgWN#.stke4jo9l

I purchased a Rottwieler from Lori approximatly 4 years ago and I will tell you like this he is a awesome dog!  I took him to Upton's K-9 center in Indianapolis In. and had him trianed. He is probably the smarted and healthyest dog I have seen.  A police department made me an offer on him and I said uh huh.  Lori has good dogs.     Thank you   bpriest4733@yahoo.com

FIrst of all, posting 3 reviews by the same person and even in the same day should not be allowed.  I took your pup to my vet just before you picked up and checked out fine.  You took your pup to the vet and stated he had Giardia.  It could be possible even though we treat the pups at 4 weeks for 3 days straight and at 6 weeks for 5 days straight.  During transition a pups immune system can drop and be susceptable.  I wouldn't have mind paying for the medication to treat the giardia but you were claiming that the cost of the medicine was $350.  Lets me honest, the medicine is Metronidizole and cost about $20 and this situation was very easily treatable.  You stated that you are a first time buyer and it clearly shows.  You will have vet cost in the begining for follow up vaccines and such and the extra medication i agree might be anoying to have to administer for a few days in a row but doesnt warrent you writting such a negative review not only here but other places as well.  Maybe you are just not mentally ready to handle a pup at this time if a small issue like giardia would make you act so over dramatic.

Macia Kistler Your review is hardly a fair one.  The post of our email that you sent is the last that i heard from you.  True it is shocking that after 6 months your pup developed a heart murmur.  You never asked for anything or even sent copies of your vets conclusion.  You sent some pictures and stated your pup had a heart murmur.  Yes i stated it is shocking, the parents are good health with no issues.  I never stated i would not consider doing anything, i simply stated it was shocking and then you never responded back with any request or vet information to back up your claim.  The right thing to do would have been to continue the conversation and also send vet information and to also request what you wanted to do.  Instead you emailed to mention a problem then a year and a half later write a bad review stating i did not do anything about this situation.

I agree 100% with this report. I also purchased a puppy from hoover acres, a golden retreiver. I noticed all the same things that this report includes. My puppy came home with gardia and an ear infection. He didnt look 8 weeks like she claimed. She said that it was a small litter. Theres no denying the this place is indeed a puppy mill. Do the right thing and report this and do not buy a thing from her.

I did contact Lori with 6 months and got no sympathy or solution. My puppy was very sick and given an expectancy of 3-5 years. I would not have taken a refund or exchange had they been offered but would have been very satisfied had she made contact with the owners of her litter mates to let then know so they could follow up.

First off,Lori of hooveracres is NOT a puppy mill n have No idea why you say that, other than to get self satisfaction for your gain. If your puppy is sick, then you do have a 1 yr health guarantee,to take the dog back,Did you even call Lori? My thoughts is why you even adopted a dog when you are not ready to assume responsibility to the pup..There is two sides to every story n I m finding yours immature n one sided..

I bought a sheltie pup from her 18 mos ago n have had No problems with her..AKC will not back anyone who is a back yard breeder or a puppy mill..So what have you done to help your sick puppy? Did it get it's shots on time? Are you keeping the kennel n your home clean? You did not mention that in your complaint. Her digs are health n she has strict breeding rules I think you need to wise up n place the blame on who is responsible. YOU!

To all it many concern; Thank you for taking the time to read my posting. I have a sweet sheltie girl,Sierra who it getting ready to meet here 11 mo. on earth here..She is very sweet n loves to play with her Sheltie brother Oreo n our resident cats. I have been in contact with Lori of Hooveracres,Now for about a year, and I still get the amazing feedback as I send photos to her of our beautiful sheltie girl that is very smart n so playful. I d like to take the time to inform ppl that when you deal with a breeder,do not hesitate not even a moment,to stay in contact with him/her. Send the breeder photos n let them know how it is going with your new family member, always stay in touch..if you have any questions feel free to contact them by phone or email, they are always glad to assist you. I have learned this from reading a article online..I have always did my homework and research, before proceeding Lori, has always been very friendly n helpful for the first year I have know her.She will send out weekly photos of your pup to you, until the pup is ready to go home with you..if you choose to ship your pup,she has a amazing lady, who will deliver your pup to you.And you also receive the free bag of puppy food,So you can mix it with the food you plan on using, keeps puppy from getting a tummy ache. And you have the option to buy a blanket that is hand made n has the sent of the litter mates, which help your pup settle into his/ her new home,I bought one n my sheltie loves it! They wash up n dry beautifully. I d would definitely be back to buy from Lori again,it was very pleasant transaction.

Hoover Acres - Great Dogs!

I bought a mini goldendoodle from her and he is the best dog that I have ever had. We were hesitant because we saw THIS bad review online but our experience was completely OPPOSITE! He is a healthy dog and the vet was very pleased with his health. He is 6 months now and still no health issues and very well behaved.

There is no reason for this post.  After rereading I also believe that this is someone trying to slander Lori for their own benefit. Also, if you are from the area you know that there is a lot of farm land inbetween houses.  This is rural Indiana not a city so that is not making any point.

Lori was doing something right when she was there for the beginning raising process and socializing him.  Our puppy has slept through the night since the first day that we got him.  He is great with other dogs and RARELY BARKS.  Lori was fantastic through the entire adoption process.  She would email us pictures of our puppy before we were able to pick him up.  She would also answer any questions that we had in a timely fashion.  I want another goldendoodle and will be going back to Lori!

I have seen n read the report of Miss Anonymous..I have talked to my vet about the issues her pups that she got from Lori Hoover ,Hooveracres. My vet said this Giarrida disease that the pups have is treatable n with following vet instructions. It cures quickly providing you do give medication until all medication is all gone. Now I have a pup of hers,a sheltie that was born in December 20 2014.I had contacted Lori by email n then phone,She is very honest n straight forward about the female sheltie puppy I had bought from her.She sent me photos on a weekly basis, and got shot records n all medical records, including a guarantee of health n paper work to register my sheltie with AKC..When I got her I took her to my vet n have her a clean bill of health...I have not had any issues with my puppy that is now 8 mos old . I have no complaints against Lori Hoover n send photos of my puppy Sierra n she always responds to me. If she was a bad breeder that everyone has claimed she would not 've able to sell puppies n AKC would be involved..So what if Lori Hoover may be Amish, thise folks are really cool, there is no room for racist here!!!She is wonderful to deal with n would be back to buy a puppy from her. So this is my recommendation to buy a puppy from her..SHE IS NOT A PUPPY MILL!!

Miss anonymous is the true rip off!

#17REBUTTAL Owner of company

To all who read this report:

Miss Anonymous is just a breeder trying to slander me for her own personal gain.  She received 2 very healthy puppies that were seen by our vet and given a clean bill of health and then she contacted me 5 weeks after receiving her pups claiming her puppies had giardia which means it obviously came from her own kennel.  Giardia is a belly parasite and easily taken care of with an in-expensive medication.

I do not co-breed with anyone that is in trouble with the USDA. All Adults and puppies are well taken care of and well socialized and every puppy is seen and checked before leaving.  Our puppies come with a one year health guarantee for anything life altering or genetic.  Giardia is not covered in our health guarantee becasuse it is minor and easily treatable.  We do in-fact have a coccidia and giardia prevention process in play with each litter.  Puppies come with a parvo prevention shot at 4 weeks of age and first puppy shot at 6 week.  We also deworm them at 2 and 3 weeks of age with pyrantel and at 4 weeks for 3 days straight with a banana flavored Fenbendazole and again at 6 weeks for 5 days straight.  They also come with a 4lb bag of puppy food for transition.

I am not saying that I am perfect and will never have any issues but putting a report on this site is definetly not the mature way to handle a situation.   I am a very reasonable person when given the chance.  Miss Anonymous obviously didn't really look in and around my home because my living room floor has plenty of dog toys and I have a shelf with plenty of opened containers of dog treats and if she took a walk in my yard she might have found more than just paw prints from my furbabies!  Her whole report was filled with assumptions and made up, twisted half-truths.

I have been a breeder for over 17 years and there are alot of bad, unexperienced breeders out there, but i assure you that I am not one of them.  Call or email before taking Miss anonymous's twisted report as truth.
