Last August I was involved in an accident with an insured of Horace Mann Insurance. The accident was deemed to be 100% the fault of their insured.
Horace Mann failed to send an adjuster to the auto repair shop for several weeks. I then decided to go through my insurance company because I needed my car.
A part was ordered and received defective. It was promptly returned and another part ordered. The second part was installed promptly.

It took a month to get my car fixed, through no fault of mine. I took the car in and notified both insurance companies within hours of the accident. I supplied both companies with the names of four witnesses and the investigating officer.

During this time, I rented a car. The rental agency gave me a price break because it was an insurance claim. I paid for the rental with my VISA. The total was over $1,500. When it came time to reimburse me, Horace Mann adjuster decided $475 was sufficient reimbursement.
I took my case to the Oregon Board of Insurance Ombundsman. She investigated and determined that I was owed the entire amount. Horace Mann agreed to pay the balance.

After not receiving anything for several weeks, I called the Oregon Board of Insurance. The Ombundman contacted Horace Mann Insurance, Renee @ 1-888-257-4179, and she told me Horace Mann had changed their mind. The Oregon Board of Insurance has no authority to enforce their determination.
