On 11/23/08, my husband surprised me by bringing home a shirt that I had admired in the window of a local clothing retailer, Hot Rags, one morning after breakfast. He didn't realize that several days earlier I had purchased the shirt for myself. So two days later, I went to the store to return the shirt. It was in the original bag, with the receipt, and with the tags on it.

I was informed that Hot Rags issues only store credit for returns regardless of the circumstances. I explained that I understand the reason for the policy, which I think is to keep people from attempting to return items after they've been worn, but clearly this wasn't that case. I already had the shirt, I was wearing the one I bought when I went in to return the other one, and they were perfectly able to resell the other one at no cost or damage to them.

I am certain that my husband didn't understand this bizarre policy, which is at odds with every reputable retailer I've ever done business with. Most stores would have credited my husband's credit card with a smile in this case, thanked me for shopping there and telling me to come back soon. It is unfair to force me to purchase additional items at Hot Rags when I may never find anything there I want again.
