I purchased a plane ticket to hawaii and considered getting the travel insurance because hot wire is non refundable. I was going through some medical prob's. Well I read the terms over well and purchased the insurance a few days later on a different credit card.

A day later I was at work, late night 9-3a and my neck and upper back began notting up. I don't really know why. This was on the first of June last year. The next day I went to the doctor because i couldn't lift my arm. being a waitress i couldn't work for a week.

I went back to doctor a week later and she advised me not to go on my trip. My condition had worsened. so i filled out all the claim forms and sent all the stuff in. No response for weeks. I tried calling and reasoning with them and hotwire. I called the BBB and consumer affairs.

The reason why they would not refund my ticket is because the symptoms began the day after my effective date of coverage. Effective means in effect. the effective day of my travel ins. was the 31st of may. they first said the next day is the real date it goes in effect.

I have read the terms over and over and no where in the terms i received does it say that the symptoms cannot arise the day after the effective date. they sent me some copy of the terms i guess they revised the end and put that the effective date is two days after the effective date stated, i still don't under stand where it says that.

Well it has been a year and still no money. it shouldn't matter when your first symptoms occur, it should matter when the doctor advised you not to go on the trip which was june 8. so out of all of this mess i was out 500 dollars, 20 for the insurance that isn't worth a d**n and a week of work. If anyone else has been tricked by these scams with the insurance please speak up so i can get my 500 dollars back. Hotwire should be ashamed by letting this other company scam them. Oh yeah the reason i couldn't dispute the charges on my cc is because i used a differ card for the insurance. see they found a loop hole and took advantage of me.

If you have a doctors note that you can send directly to hotwire advising that you not go on the trip, they would refund you. You wouldn't need to go through travel insurance for that.
