I am currently trying to get my wedding gown from the House of Brides. I ordered my gown back in January (it was $600 more than listed online and the staff was very unfriendly, but it was my dream gown)and I've now been calling the store in Schaumburg since early July (when I was told my dress would be in)and I have not once received a return call!!

I called their order department 8 times in two weeks and never, ever received a call back and I left detailed, pleasant messages each time. My mother also tried calling as many or more times.

Finally, I gave up on calling the order department and called the receptionist instead. I had to call three times before I could get a receptionist to tell me when they expected my dress to be in (the first two promised to call me back in an hour and I waited one day in between each until calling back) and when I finally got someone who would talk to me she told me that my dress was due to be in on July 28th.

So, I waited until July 28th and then started calling again to see if my dress was in. It's now August 19th and my dress still isn't in. We gave them a wedding date of August 28th!! My mother and I have both been calling every other day for 3 weeks now and everyone we have spoken to has been rude, dismissive, and promised to check on my dress for me, but then never called me back.

I was even told by a women named Anna that she had my shipping order right in front of her and that my dress had been shipped on August 6th only to be told again by Anna the very next week that my dress had actually been shipped on August 12!! She just blatently lied to me about the shipment date. She also refused to give me the tracking number and told me that it would take 7-10 days for my dress to arrive although she had just told my mother earlier in the day that it would take 3-5 days.

My mother called their store yesterday and asked to speak to the manager who acted like my mother was wasting her time and then promised to call back and never did.

I have never encountered such terrible customer service in my entire life. In the last month and a half my mother and I have made at least 40 phone calls to the House of Brides never once receiving a call back although it has been promised every single time. We've been lied to about the shipping date of my wedding gown 3 times and have been treated rudely by an inconsiderate and lazy staff.

My advice would be to avoid the House of Brides like the plague. You don't get a good deal and you might not even get your dress by your wedding date. I have yet to even see if my dress is the correct size or color, but at this point, I won't have time to get anything fixed if there is a mistake. I'll barely even have time to get it fitted although I ordered it 8 and half months ago.

It was April 2004, we were supposed to get married in Aug of 2004 but due to situations arose was pushed up to May 2004 and we had less than 3 weeks to find, and have it altered if need be.

We were also on a tight budget.

They had $199 gowns that some were hideous, others didn't fit or needed to be seriously altered.

The place was packed. Even though it took me a little while to get someone to help me, I understood them being busy. We a dress, it needed to be altered but told me that it could take up to 2 months. I didn't have two months to wait since my wedding was less than 3 weeks away.

Luckily I found someone close to in my town to do the alterations for a lot less than what the dress had cost. House of Brides also wanted over double the cost of the dress to do the alteration.

I would have looked at the website, if it didn't read "not responsible for price errors, or subject to change" I would have printed it off and asked to speak to a manager.

I didn't have that bad of an experience but there are other places that are a lot worse.

It was NOT house of brides, but my friend ordered her wedding gown from a bridal shop and they (the bridal shop)lost all the documenation, said her paper work was not theirs and refused to refund her (she paid everything in full), or fullfil their agreement, she had to take them to court.
