I desperately need your help and would have written much sooner had I known of your existence sooner. I pray you will intervene and not allow the foreclosure pending and eminent to proceed.

Mine is not the only story of its kind out there. If you look up Household on any number of consumer rights, better business, and/or rip off web sites, you will find a plethora of stories by people who are experiencing the same horrible, unethical and unfair treatment. So I hope you take my situation to heart and will help me because it might just serve many others as well by not only addressing my particular situation, but the root cause of the problems as well.

In February 2001 I lost my job after I blew the whistle on my employer who was abusing mental health patients and stealing federal funds. By October 2001 I was beginning to have financial trouble and called Household to let them know what my situation was. They told me they couldnt do anything to help me until I was three months past due and to call back then. I did not want to wait as this would ruin my credit, but they said I had no choice.

A couple weeks later I received a letter threatening foreclosure. I called again and was told that I could get a deferment and a reduced monthly payment after the three months, but nothing before that. When the three months were almost up, I sent them everything they required within a few days including one payment they asked for supposedly required to stop any legal proceedings.

From that point on I couldnt get anyone to return my calls, letter or faxes. A few weeks later I got another letter threatening foreclosure again. I called customer service and was told they would not accept the payment I had sent, that I needed to pay the full balance past due. Then I got a phone message indicating my deferment and restructure was approved. When I called to get the details, nobody would call me back. A couple weeks later I got a letter saying my file was sent to the foreclosure department.

Four months go by and nobody would call me back. I received another letter threatening foreclosure. After calling and faxing all the department heads I could get the names of what had been happening I was offered a forbearance agreement. I paid $3000 and two payments in a row and the day after they cashed the last check they illegally transferred the title of my house into their name. I received no notification other than the letters threatening foreclosure.

I came home one day to a three day eviction notice on my door left by the realtor hired to sell my house. I hired a lawyer and he was able to stop the eviction but nobody would call him back. That was November 2002. Come to find out the guy wasnt even a lawyer yet and while I was leaving messaged for him to call me and his company was sending me billings, he had already left the firm and nobody bothered to tell me nor was anybody working on my case!

It is now July 2003. I am still in my house. It is still not in my name. They still have not accepted any form of payment from me or responded to any of my correspondence until a few weeks ago. I got a letter saying I had two weeks to come up with $16.232. or they would foreclose.

Then I learned about Department of Corporations, so I filed a complaint with them. I sent a copy of it to Household and all the sudden I got a call from Households policy and compliance Department. The representative said everyone was very concerned by my complaint and my situation should not have been handled this way and they would help me correct it.

I got a letter from them a few days ago offering to waive 7 months of interest, defer the rest, and lower my interest rate. It sounded so good they almost had me fooled. The seven months they are waiving is the past seven months that I have not legally owned my house because they illegally transferred title out of my name and seven months ago was also when my loan was paid off in full by whom ever took over my house. Then the deferment of eight months is good right? They insist on applying all my payments to the deferred amount until it is paid off, so in the meantime I will be accruing new late fees, months and months of new unpaid arrears and then according to the contract, they could foreclose on me again.

Finally, they refuse to tell me how much they are "waiving", how much they are deferring and how much I would be charged for misc. fees until after I sign the agreement.

I need help and I need it now. If I dont sign their offer by August 15 the offer will be reneged and the house will be foreclosed on again, if that is even possible. I was sent a notice of default and election to sell dated 6-6-03. Somebody please help me.
