First off, let me tell you bout "US," as the family writting this report:

We are a carnivorous family of 3, parents in our 30's, child is 16 months. We are well travelled but do not consider ourselves food critics by any means. We can honestly say that generally we can find the "good" in almost any food! We eat steaks and seafood generally from Omaha Steaks, or genuine seak houses like Manny's or Fogo de Chao. We also can visit a fast food restaurant like Whataburger and have a good meal! So, in generally we are not food snobs, but know the distinct difference beween a chuck steak and a t-bone!

This salesman came to our door and told me about the company. He stated they were just like Omaha Steaks company, in taste and product. I told him their prices were too high for a frozen steak and after a few moments he offered me the "steak" package for $3.00 per steak, and even substituted the hamburger patties for stuffed pork chops! We figured we can't go wrong! We also liked the salesman and would love to support a local business!

We have now eaten 8 filet mignon, some strip steaks, bone-in t-bone, and a stuffed pork chop......and I can honestly say, the steaks outside of butchers coolers in the grocery store are even better! The filets are tough and lack of flavor completely! I even tried different cooking methods; pan fried them before putting them on the grill in butter, thawed first, marinated over-night.....nope, they are just not good! The stuffed pork chop on the grill is a bit better than all of the steaks, but still not great by any means!

I was hoping Houston's Choice would be something we could even "gift," but it would be like us giving a bad fruit cake to a baker!

I noticed that also the meat boxes do not have Houston's Choice name on them. They just state Midwestern Brand Beef USDA packed in Illinois! ANY person could make a paper print out with prices and vend these under their name....if they wanted to vend poor cuts of meat that is!

So, for those who get the GREAT salesman at their door....offer him a new job please!
