I bought a sleep number bed from sleep number and they gave me a plan for no payments for 1 year with no interest.  I get my first bill after the year is up from GE Money and they added a whole year's interest, and a fee of $39.00 for being over the limit and they wanted an amount that I could not afford.  I called and asked for help but got no where with them so I called the attorney general's office and GE put me on a hardshp plan for 9 months and I asked them if I may continue the plan in the 8th month because I could not find a job but was told I did not qualify for it.  They never asked for a financial statement from me and the payment they wanted from me after the 9th month was around $600.00 to get it under the limit and still being charged $39.00.  It was not a charge card where I went out and charged anything.  The interest rate is now 29.99%.  The amount of the bed was $2449.96 the bill is now over $3700.  I told them to come get the bed since I could not afford it.  Then a few months later I get a letter from Howard Lee Schiff, PC and I called and thought I made arrangements to make monthly payments of $50.00 so the first month was ok.  Made another payment of $50.00 in May, got a letter from them 2 days after saying "don't ignore this letter" so I called and asked what I was paying the monthly amount but was told that they wanted $75.00 per month and the other girl was new, did not know what she was doing and the amount I owe was too high for the 50.00 and that if I did not pay the 75.00 they could garnish my wages, put a freeze on my assets, and a lien on my house.  I was emotionally upset and crying we would not survive if they did that and paid an extra 50.00 to cover the last two months.  Well I ended up getting papers that I was being sued in small claims court.  I called and asked now what, I am paying you 75.00 each month but was informed that they wanted 94.00.  I said I can not afford that.  I was still at that time without a job that paid me a salary, my weork I do involves commission and with the economy and no sales I have no commission.  I ended up going to court to plead my case and let the courts decide how much if any I should pay.  I did ask before court a copy of the contract and proof that I owe the money and I got a statement and some papers I can not read and a computer printout of a bill for someone I don't know, how much he owes, the number of the card.
