HPL Subscriptions-Hot Planet Fraudulant e-check deducted money from my checking account. Elk Grove Internet
Christmas morning I noticed a fraudulant checkn in the amount of $39.99 had been put through my checking account on Christmas Eve!!! I viewed the check through my on line banking and there was phone number (866)247-7087 and a reference number. I immediately called the number to find out what the charge was and they told me it was a Hot Planet subscription, I told them I had never heard of such a thing and they immediately asked if I wanted to cancel the subscription and get a refund. I told them I never ordered the subscription and yes i wanted my money refunded. They said it would be canceled and my money refunded in 10 days. I questioned why it takes so long for something I didnt' authorize. They said they were just a processing house and the funds would take up to 10 days. I immediately contacted the fraud department of my bank and they went over the information with me told me the only thing to do was to close the account, which I did the day after Christmas. Closing an account is a major pain, as I am sure anyone who has had to do this knows.
I googled Hot Planet and discovered that it has to do with a porn magazine, but then I found information here on Ripoffreport.com which confirmed I was not the first person this had happened to. Many people reference having a Pro-Pay account. I am a consultant with Creative Memories and had a Pro-Pay account in the past to process credit card transactions for my customers. I contacted Creative Memories today to find out if other consultants had contacted them regarding this issue, the confirmed that they had received calls from 5 other consultants regarding fraudulent checks through their checking accounts. Apparently Pro-Pay is investigating things on their end.
My upline contacted me last night to let me know that she too had been a victim of the same thing back in November but just noticed it yesterday. She received a call yesterday from another consultant that was "hit" CHristmas eve like I was. We sent out an e-mail to fellow consultants and so far have received 1 response of a bad check. That makes 4 victims in the same town that have or had Pro-Pay accounts. Each of us is in the process of filing police reports with the Elk Grove Police Department.
I stress to each person reading this, please check your accounts continuously for fraudulant charges and act on them immediately so you are not the victim a second time.
