QUICK FACTS: Landlord attempting to evict me illegally after one week on a 6 month lease, bc I failed to sign lease documents 24 hours after moving in; although he accepted my rent, and deposit and I moved in. BACKGROUND I viewed a room within a NON-EXEMPT property (18761 Willard st. Reseda, CA 91335) for rent on July 29, 2017. On July 30, I agreed to begin 6 month tenancy at $650/mo., a discount from $700 because I only would be there 3 days a week. The property manager (Tom Chamberlain) claimed the owner was Hamid Farzadpour, and was "out of the country." I paid the $650 deposit and first months rent on Aug. 1st, 2017 via direct deposit - Total $1300.

ISSUE Wednesday, August 3rd, after moving a few things in, but not staying, rental paperwork was delivered to me in person and I was told to TAKE MY TIME to review them. I was out of town for 3 days, as discussed (I would only be there Tues-Thur). I was notified via text on August 4th, that I must return to the property immediately to sign lease. I said I would do so on Tuesday, August 8th; Chamberlain declined. I asked for a scan or picture copy to e-sign; but Chamberlain denied having any copies or access to them at all. (Texts are saved). I stopped responding after a number of lengthy, threatening texts.

Then on August 6th, I received a text message saying that management had to enter my room to. "turn off an alarm clock," which seemed suspicious, as my leasing agreements and documents had all been on the desk. On August 7th, I returned to the property a notice dated August 4th, 2017 was on my door saying that I had to move by September 4th. and not to pay rent further bc it would not be accepted. Chamberlain said that my "refusal" to sign the lease meant that I couldn't live there anymore. Then he gave me this whole story about how he didn't make the decisions and its Hamid that doesn't like "my type" of people (probably black people, Idk) and the decisions not up to him, because he's just the manager. Yeah right! So close I reported them to the housing department. Turns out there have been multiple complaints about him. And then he responded when he found out I made the complaint by giving me a 3 day notice! Unbelievable! Scam Landlord.

FORMER OWNER RESPONSE - I SOLD PROPERTY IN MAY 2014, (3+ years before complaintent filed) and I never met "Dessy"

1. Sold on 5/9/2014; a full 3 and 1/2 years prior to "Dessy D." issued the complaint or claims to have rented from me. Never met him, I don't own the house.

2. I sold it as an occupied rental, to Hamid Farzadpour on May 9, 2014 with fully sogned esoppels and releases from all current tenants at that time.

3. Tom Chamberlain was just a tenant and was NOT a manager until AFTER the sale was completed and the property had been transferred the new owner.

Summary: I sold the home 3.5 years prior to this party moving in. I am not connected with Hamid, Tom or anyone at that property and I don not have any interest; financial, legal or oitherwise, in that property.
