I have a Best Buy "Same as Cash" account that is handled by HRS. Every other time I bought something at Best Buy and put it on this "same as cash" plan, no payment was due until the promotional expiration date.

However, for reasons known only to HRS, my last purchase was put on a "minimum payment" plan until the promotional expiration date. So I got a bill for May that said I owed a minimum payment of $10, which I overlooked. I paid the entire account balance the very next month, before the promotional expiration date listed on the bill. THREE MONTHS LATER I received a bill from HRS for $126.21.

Upon investigation, they had billed me a $29 late fee for missing the $10 payment in May, even though I paid the entire account off the next month before the due date. I received no statement from them until three months later, and they continued to charge late fees on the late fees for a balance that was PAID OFF.

The customer service staff was rude and even though I had spent thousands of dollars at Best Buy and used this account with years of good standing and excellent payment history, they basically told me it was too bad and that I had to pay them late fees on the late fees for which I never got statements!!

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! Not only will I never use this account again, I will probably never make another major purchase at Best Buy!

For the person in the above ripoff report to ignore ANY billing statement without calling the company to clear things up is only ripping off himself.

To RipoffReport.com,

I had to write in response to the ripoff report for HRS USA at the following url: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff6436.htm

On July 4, 2001, my husband and I applied for the SAME AS CASH offer with HRS USA, it was clear that it was a credit card program that we were signing up for. Not only did the sales representative explain it, but on the paperwork you sign and intial to apply for the program clearly states you'll be charged a monthly minimum payment with 0% interest til the same as cash expiration date and if balance isn't paid off at that time all the accrued interest (at a specific percentage rate) will be due.

For the person in the above ripoff report to ignore ANY billing statement without calling the company to clear things up is only ripping off himself. I will be cautious when I do pay off my balance earlier than the promotion expiration date and keep all my check stubs and billing statements to prove actual payoff, that would be my only concern with HRS at this point.

Sincerely,

Julie Wittmann
