In 2007 we were approached by a Beneficial Agent asking us to refiance our current home loan. At the time we owed about 70,000 and the we thought the home to be worth about 85K. They offered us a loan for 135K which I thought was pretty high. The appraisal came back for that exact amount. I was not very savy to the business of real estate and thought that would be great. In hindisght it should have raised a red flag. No other homes in the vicinity were being sold for anywhere near the 130K mark.

I believe (but can't prove) that there was some illegal contact and persuading from Beneficial and the appraiser. We have never been late or missed a payment but 8 years later we are still upside down in our mortgage. I would be curious to know if anyone else had any kind of issues like this.

We have tried multiple times to renegotiate the interest rate on our mortgage but Beneficial says that won't do anything until we are late and then they could look at options. We have been very diligent in getting our credit scores up and would like to  purchase a new home in the future.

Any advise would be helpful.
