I was having an issue with my Norton's Internet Security as it would not load. It was giving me an error, after doing the first technical support suggested (Running a Virus scan from norton's NPE System) it did not fix it. The next step was to re install It. I decided to contact Technical support and found this number listed 1-800-986-4764. Thinking this was norton's I proceeded with letting the Tech Support guy access my desktop. He went and showed me some error codes which I at first considered a bit fishy since they were standard application errors. However considering in the past I had a Trojan that blocked access to my MacAfee and hotmail I let them proceed. A supervisor came on line and showed me my IP address. Again I was sceptical since it looked like a normal Command Prompt setting. However he then said I had my IP address hacked and referred to a "Foreign" IP. He sated it was my windows system file http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/csrss/. This is a standard windows application and ca become corrupted by a trojan.

I was still under the impression this was a Norton Support guy and when I asked he stated "Yes we norton support". He then started a whole scare tactic which seems to be elaborately created to dupe people into buying a $400 dollar security package. Insisting I had to have him remove the trojan block my I.P. address and install some sort of anti hacking software. I actually was looking into some I.P. blocking software to help monitor my router so was interested. I stated I could not afford the fee he then told me about another package for $200.00 including lifetime support. I work in sales and this tactic is quite normal. He sensed I had a need and interest so he went straight for the jugular!

Well I gave my credit card but now was extremely suspicious when he tool me to the pay site and it was not symantec or norton's! As he was entering my credit card I quickly grabbed my smartphone, went to google and put in PCCare 247 rip off. Well I then seen all the reports here on this company. The credit card was declined as I did not give him the proper Security #. Lucky for me as I would have been scammed! I feel so d**n stupid I let this east indian scam artist almost take over my PC!

Confronting him on speaker phone I asked him several times why this company "Was all over rip off report?" Ignoring my query he just kept focusing on getting my credit card payment. Would not answer my question and kept up the pressure! O.K. that was it! I told him "Cancel this I wiull fix it myself!" He then tried the scare tactic on me again and now I was quite annoyed! I got the computer out of safe mode and hung up on him! I should have trusted my instincts as I am Quite Computer Savvy and have fixed many friends PC's!

I then re installed the norton's and it was a simple corrupted executable. Seems I updated my PC and I guess somehow the file svchost.exe got corrupted. I then decided to run Hijack this to see what was on my PC. There was a minor malware embedded and I quickly removed it. I then re installed my system Nortons and did a scan No viruses. I also doid an I.P. track and scan and found no intrusions, I do know that is not always 100% though.

In all I wonder just what this company would have put on my PC!!!! WOuld they now use it as a bot for their own evil schemes??!?!

This is a total Scare tactic Rip off!!

Beware,
Kip Zimmerman
