I moved from Ohio August 2011. I called Hughesnet to cancel the service. They claim I called in October. In April 2012 they begin billing me again and have billed in May & June.

My credit card company is disputing these charges with Hughesnet and from the person I spoke to at the credit card company, it sounds as though Hughesnet complaints are very common.

When I spoke to Hughesnet I was on hold off and on and I was on the phone for 30 minutes during this time, just trying to find out why I was being charged. They can tell the service has not been used, as they charge more when you go over the usage limit.

They are now claiming I owe an additional $158.96, since I called them about them billing my credit card. I had my credit card number changed so they could no longer take money from that source. I had been with Hughesnet long enough that I was no longer under their service obligation.

When I was actively using Hughesnet, the service did not always work very well. Where I live now I have service from a local company via an antenna on a mountain to a very small receiver mounted on my house. The high speed service is excellent and there is no limit to the amount I use per month. I get all of this for $50/month. I am not obligated to a service contract for a number of months. There was no installation fee.

If this local company can provide this excellent service why can't Hughesnet? More importantly why does Hughesnet continue to charge me for service that no one is using? I guess they can only make money by being dishonest.
